Thought about that. Possibly a bit, but I feel like they are deep enough that I'd have to sand the edge of the board more than would make me comfortable. As they are they don't impact the feel or playability of the board, it's just a cosmetic thing.

Over time they may smooth over too just from playing. And you’re likely to put other wear marks of your own. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the bass.

I actually really like the bass already. I'll do a longer write-up post on the bass in the future after I get the nut and pick guard issues worked out. But coming from someone who owns two Pre-CBS basses, I have to say that I'm happy to announce that in terms of tone, playability and looks, the CS bass hangs with the early 60s originals. The hand wound '62 PUs in this thing sound really good.

I’ve got a CS ‘59 P-bass bought new in 2008 (also from Sweetwater) that was NOS. Over the last 12 years it’s acquired play wear and a few bruises, stuff just happens when it gets used. Anyway, like you I’ve been really happy with it and agree that CS basses are a great alternative to pre-CBS basses, both in playing and tone. Glad you’re enjoying yours.

It's a shame you had trouble; it doesn't sound like the CS I've known. If they are so understaffed, maybe many of the craftspeople are less experienced, or maybe they are under pressure to work faster.

57 P got here yesterday and all I can say is WOW! First thing I noticed was the distribution of the weight on this instrument, not the lightest at around 8.5 pounds, but this bass is very nicely balanced. The neck is HUUUGE. The neck is very thick front to back with a soft V profile. The nut width is 1.75”. You won’t believe me, but this is a very fast neck. With my large hands, I get around the neck very easily and I appreciate how “roomy” the neck is. The hand wound 57 pickup is great with the flats on the bass, very open and woody sounding with a nice and very solid sound. I really like the 9.5” radius, it makes bending and chords really easy to do.

Great choice, I'm 7-ish months into the identical bass, including color. It's been my #1 ever since. Every time I pick my other basses up, they go back to their case. Congrats! P.S. Same goes for the strap that came with it.

Inspired by all the great family shots, I thought I would take a few of both CS jazz and precision basses.

And here's a side by side shot with my '59, I must say, I preferred V neck's much more on guitar over C necks, but for bass, I really don't see any advantage for me in using a V neck, the "edge" limits the comfortable positions of my left hand thumb...

Also notice how the pickup covers are quite different and the lacquer is missing on the anodized plate on the custom shop instrument

I think the square-cornered one on the right is the true vintage P style. I remember a discussion years ago when a line of regular Fender vintage copies started arriving with that cover. Some said the style was changed years ago on regular production Fender's and about how the CS also used the rounded style covers, but the square would have been more accurate.

Apparently Fender CS has stopped including the Cruz Tools tool kit and the Fender guitar cable with CS guitars. I had a 2013 CS Telecaster that came with a nice little tool kit and cable that I still use. The CS P Bass I got new last month was missing both of those. Anyone know when they stopped including these?
