I almost bought one of the two they had at the Seven Corners store last month. Wonderful sound and well set up, plus the color is amazing in person. Ended up with a '14 American Jazz from the TB classifieds instead though.

Fender deluxe PJ smokes MIA imo

Not to lessen the enthusiasm for this bass but has anyone else noticed what I would call unusual harmonics on this bass? I'm getting odd artifacts/sustain. It almost sounds like I'm attempting to play a chord when in fact a single note has been struck. I'm using the Markbass in my sig and have tried various settings on both the bass and the amp to eliminate it (although I haven't spent a great deal of time trying all possible combinations yet).
On a related note, anyone have a clue what strings this bass ships with? GC is no help and since they (and Musiician's Friend) are the only one that carries this bass, it's not on Fender's site, etc., etc. (Yes I am thinking perhaps it needs to have some chromes or flats or flat chromes for that matter!).

Can you check to see if your pickups are too close to the strings? If they are too close it can lead to weird overtones when you play, so hopefully that's all it is!
Usually these, Nickel plated steel 45-100. From my own experience and seeing it on some spec sheets.

Lowering the pick-ups helped some. May see just how low I can go later.

Ya know, I bet some of this comes from my poor playing ability. Just never noticed it on the other basses I've played regularly perhaps. Working on it.......and I really need (okay, want) to try some other strings on it........
And the honest answer is no.......all stock except my lowering the pick-ups (which I have since returned to their original position +/- a millimeter here and there). I was going to wait until I changed strings but I think I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. But hey, I'm getting used to it! Maybe I'm just not used to every nuance being amplified.
Alrighty then.....#1) I need new glasses, #2 Does this "Fender High Mass bridge" use an odd size hex wrench?
#1) Maybe I'll get one of those huge magnifying glasses! Oh wait! I have some Walmart spectacles here some place!
#2) So....it uses a different size hex for 1st and 4th string than the 2nd and 3rd string.......interesting. Are these suckers metric? I have three sets of hex keys (none are metric) here and none seem to fit correctly.
On the plus side I went thru the setup process anyway and no adjustments seemed to be required.

I went in to a GC yesterday to get my sons Xmas present, the first time in over a year. Went to a store I've never been in, It was weird cause something was pulling me around in there ......I didn't want to be there, didn't want to look around, get the gift and get out. But suddenly I saw the bass room, and what is hanging on the wall but one of these baby's! I didn't even know they were doing them again! I've wanted one for years. Well went back 2 hours later and played it, felt great, like it was set up just for me and light, couldn't be more then 8lbs if that, Sounded good, so........I put it on lay away tell after xmas is done.
Unless I'm missing a key in three different sets I tend to agree.......guess I'll pick up a metric set.
No idea what the stock string were, they played fine. I sacked them a month later for roto 66s.
I am gonna have my tattoo artist paint the pick guard, some old school sailor jarryish stuff with blues. I will post pics when it's done.
I'm dropping it off next month. I gotta head outa town for work. Did not like the idea of being without it unless I was forced..
