Update: I got a chance to play my friend's 70s era Telecaster PB, and its fine. I'll be ordering a Cabronita as soon as my tax refund comes home. Thanks to all who provided input; you made my decision less nerve-wracking for sure.

I finally bought a CAR one, and I'm gonna use it for modding purposes very soon!
One thing I don't understand is the tone pot though: It works different than a standard P bass. It's more like a mid band pass than a low pass filter. Pretty much not useful the way it is, being very subtle, I'm gonna swap that with a standard tone circuit.

Although the stock Cabronita is great I modded my CAR as well. What mods did you have in mind?
Hey thanks! I've been watching your NBD thread since months, you did a great job with your P basses!
I'm gonna mod it this way:
- .47 or .1 tone cap instead of original .22
-'51P white pickguard (or pearloid if I could find a custom one)
- hipshot bt3 xtender
- add 21st fret
- swap himass with a standard vintage bridge
- install a '51 control plate
First four have higher priority, last two I could wait.
What do you think about the tone pot?

I was setting up the saddles and I could not do it with the hex key supplied with the bass. Weird, it does not fit. I did it with a small philips screwdriver though.
Did you get two standard (truss + saddles) hex keys with your cabronita? Does the smallest one fit the saddle screws?

I only remember one hex wrench with the package and never used it since I replaced the stock bridge.
Good luck on the intended mods. Just an FYI, God's Fav Bass has done some measuring and a few of your mods might take a bit more work due to spacing [control plate, 51 P guard].
I replaced all the pots and wiring on mine as I did have a problem with the tone pot and replaced the PU as well.

Where could I find those measurement? In the shop I compared a Mike Dirnt and my Cabronita, they pretty much matched. Fender Support also told me a P51 pickguard should fit.
The control plate might need two new different holes though.
Also I saw in your NBD thread the stock bridge takes 5 holes. Are they the standard fender 5 holes?
Don't think so, they install that on American Specials. I guess this is just a .22 cap, which cuts very little highs.
Hopefully God's Fav Bass will chime in since he measured his Cab for possible use of a control plate [pot spacing was different] and pick guard [which required some modding to fit]. Since I used a custom bridge [w/ standard vintage 3 hole Fender spacing] not sure if the 5 hole will fit a standard Fender bridge [although I thought I read somewhere they were the same].
It's been a week with my Cabronita now, these are some of my impressions.
I immediately noticed it got a modern vibe compared to a vintage P-bass, even though it has a very classic look.
With stock roundwounds it still has lot of trebly content, that modern ''zing" that I'd not normally associate with P-bass. Also, to me the Fidelitron pickup sounds more balanced and full range than a split coil, which is more mid focused and has more growl.
In the shop I compared it to a Mike Dirnt MIM, and even though they're both pimped up '51 Precisions basically, they sound totally different, the latter being more on the vintage side having more Pbass' traditional signature sound.
Sure, the Cab has fresh strings, Fidelitron pickup and maple fingerboard while the MD had a little dull strings, split coil and rosewood fingerboard, which explains most of the difference in character.

EDIT: actually, I read all your previous opininions, and turns out Scotch and ASATMAN had basically the same experience. It's me arriving in late!
Then, what else can I say.. build quality is great: frets are smooth, finish is perfect. Just a little loose knobs, which was easily fixable.

Deluxe gigbag is very welcome also, very well made.
In conclusion, I'm enjoying it very much; as I said before, I'm gonna do some custom mods and for me is a keeper.

I'm in love with the looks of this bass. The sunburst one totally got me.
Guess what, I'm so lucky the only shop in my country stocking the model in all color BUT SB is about 8 hours away from me... Spending two days just to try a bass is pretty much not an option. What else angers me? Buying it from another european shop will make it cost to me 950$ opposed to, for example, Musician's Friend selling it at 600 $ for the States. That ain't a small difference...
I truly hope some stock comes over here or one day I'll get mad enough to buy it abroad, dammit. I bet desert Africa gets more stock if it than Italy.

I got myself a Squier Cabronita today, reliced and modified. Looks cool and plays great!
