Fender Precision Bass thread

Worst P Bass I ever played...my first: a 1978 Olympic White with a rosewood board and a space in the neck pocket you could fit a deck of cards into. The pickups sucked, it was heavy and the neck was like playing a strung baseball bat. I've been addicted ever since. I currently own the best P Bass I've ever played: a candy apple red and maple American Special with a Babicz bridge and Duncan Basslines. A highly modified MIM P Bass Special. And a sunburst and maple Gamma Alpha, which is the lightest P style bass I've ever played at just over 7 pounds. P Basses are like P-nuts...you can't have just one.

You seriously had one of those P basses?!?! Lucky!! That was a very limited edition "Swiss Army" Precision bass! The space in the neck pocket was indeed to hold a deck of cards so the band would have something to do between sets or recordings. The pickups sucked so the could use them to vacuum up the stage after the show. They were heavy so you could use the to workout and stay in shape. And you could use them to play baseball. They were good but misunderstood basses but they were good.

had a couple P-basses over the decades ... 74 , 78 , 83 , ... now have my first P/J , 2000 MIA Fender Hot Rod Precision ... I like it ...!

usually preferred the variety of sounds I could get from J style basses ...

BUT ... nothing but a P-bass sound just like a P-bass ...!

I hate to derail a good fake P bass thread with a serious comment but those Hot Rod P basses are awesome. My bass teacher had one back in 2000. I tried to play it as much as possible. I had my 77 P bass at the time. The 77 was a good bass(because it was a P bass) but that Hot Rod was the cat's pajamas!
OK back to the fakeness.
