Fender Precision Bass thread

If you put a Jazz neck on a P bass it loses the chunky funky stank. A lot of what makes a P bass a P bass is the girth of the neck. If you put a Jazz pup on a P bass is loses it's simplexity. So I'mm gonna say a molested P bass is not as good as a good ol' P bass although I do disagree with myself on this point.
He said girth!!!

I'm gonna get flack for this, but I was with Fender till SWR was shelved and wanted a fretted 4 string P-Bass (I usually play 5 string unlined fretless and actually have an American Jazz V with an unlined ebony board, one of a handful). So at NAMM a few years ago I played the American standard, the Mexi Standard, and the Squire Vintage Modifed. The Mexi felt cheap but the Squire had the same weight and balance as the American. All had maple necks and boards. I actually had them send the Squire, changed the nut to bone, changed the pickup, put a NOS slotted Bad Ass 2 on it, and had the frets polished. And man it's one of the nicest playing and sounding P-Bass's I've ever played. For 4 string fretted it's what I use and what I have people use when they need to do bass tracks at my place.
