Fender Rumble Club

I push my R40 all the time. I set master at 12 o'clock and adjust gain from there. Mostly run Bass at 11 to 12, Mids 11 and Treble around 2 o'clock. My Smith has excellent onboard effects so I fine tune from there. I did change the 10inch speaker out to a Seismic aluminum framed Richter, 3" voice coil @ 200 watts. Sometimes I run the Contour and Bright cause I like it snappy and clean and I have never had to use the overdrive. Used it at Diamond Jim's and the bass player for the house band uses an Ampeg 8x8 cab. He couldn't believe the sound I was getting from that R40. That little amp is all I need but I feel that Fender should have put a better quality speaker in their Rumbles....just my opinion.

So Wednesday evening I got home about 1-1/2 hours before my wife, so I was able to do some practice with my new 500C through the speakers instead of headphones.

It's slightly louder than my 15 watt Ashdown.

OK, it's MUCH louder.

WOW. Playing my U-Bass, everything flat, sounded great. Haven't had time to try my other basses with it yet. Ended up with the gain all the way down, and the Volume quite low, so I would not disturb the neighbors. Their living room is about 30-40 feet from the room I practice in, and if I cranked it, I'm sure they would hear it.

Since I rarely play through an amp (most of my playing is through FOH at church), I'm going to have to look for more opportunities to play elsewhere to help justify buying this.

I'm actually starting to dislike the drive option on my 40. Clean channel plus a sansamp does it for me if I want any drive. Granted, more cords and wires to deal with, but I find the amp's drive option to be too muddy for me.

I like a good clean drive sound where I can also hear the notes being played instead of having to almost guess. Just me probably. I could do away with the drive option and have more EQ options or have more options than just Vintage, Bright, and Contour.

I don't even know what the Contour option is supposed to make my bass sound like. It just sounds like I'm getting more oomph and less clarity.
The Contour cleans up my SG Bass tone and allows me to play louder with clarity.

Is there a club number? If so, I'd like to have one. I have a 30 W (former generation in cream) :p

There is, indeed, a club number, and it's got your name on it!! @kiripunk, you are now member #1120 in the Fender Rumble Club. It's traditional that you show us a picture of your Rumble, please. We are especially interested in the special colors, like yours, even if it is from a former generation! And we look forward to reading about your use of your Rumble, in practices and/or at gigs.
:hyper:
ps: Check out the Rumble Wiki Page linked in my signature for more Rumble info.

I hear what you are saying. I’m itching to get a 500c. But looking at my gig calendar from the past 12 months, I would have used it 3 times (and none on the horizon.) I have 2 100c’s, which is a fine rig. Technically I’m covered, but I just know I’d appreciate the extra firepower of the 500. All I can figure beyond that is the knowledge I’m prepared for any opportunities to do bigger gigs that might roll along.

Always be prepared!

Is this the speaker? Richter-10 - (Pair) 10

How many other R40 owners have changed out the speaker?

Hi there, via Wiki I got to know I'm 2 generations behind. But anyway. I was in my wife hometown, if I'm correct a job interview was involved. I look through a shop window and I see a Mexican P, it was beaten up but the price was cheap. I talked to the owner and eventually bought it. Few weeks later I returned (because I asked if they sold parts, I didn't tell him I was in the process of creating a FrankenP). He told me something like: "We do have some parts, but not as many as you would find elsewhere" (he knew I come from a bigger city, Naples, Southern Italy). And then: "But, please stay, I have few items highly discounted, as the bass you bought". At the time I was attending some free bass lessons, but I needed a practice amp none the less. The Fender Rumble series was in my mind already, but for a stage amp. I eventually bought an Ampeg Portaflex Head+Cab instead. So I was interested. Long story short. I entered that store 3 times and 3 times I left with some toys. And here's the cream Rumble.

Besides, now that I inerhited my grandpa's piano I find the two of them look so good together.

Correction, there, kiri. That's a V2 Rumble and the current version is V3. So you're just one generation behind. The V1 has "fur" covering, which I've never seen in any color but black.

But, you're right, that creamy Rumble looks lovely with the white piano. So, I've added your photo to the Rumble Artwork section of the Wiki. Thank you for sharing!

Curious to know if you see a big volume difference when you hook up your two 40s together?

I have one Rumble 40 in my possession as of this writing. The second Rumble 40 is due to arrive this coming mid-week. I have two (2) Hartke HD75 combos (75 watts/12" speaker). Your inquiry can be answered from a basic physics standpoint; more wattage (double), more air movement (double). I think that the 80 watts/2-10" speakers will make for a very nice little mini rig.

Attention fellow Rumblers! What do you all think/feel about this double Rumble 40 set-up? I am quite excited about it.

Interested to see how you do it and how it works out.
