Fender Rumble Club

I had an outdoors band practice on Sunday. Somehow I forgot to bring my amp head along with my speaker cab. Crap!

The only options I had were to plug into the PA mixer, or try a Rumble 25. I went with the Rumble 25, and it worked perfect. It was loud enough and toneful too, up against a drummer and two 40-watt tube guitar amps. I only had the Rumble 25 three-quarters cranked too... outdoors! It sounded really good. I was flabbergasted.

Will running an outboard preamp through the effects send/receive of a Rumble 100 bypass the Rumbles onboard EQ?
Yes, like almost any (bass)guitar AMP with FX send/return.
Also that is how You "daisy chain" rumbles together.
Note that You should not plug Your instrument into the AMP and send out the signal via FX send, but into the external preamp > FX return if You want to bybass it completely.

TPS did an excellent video recently about the topic!

Very good point, Kevin!! For headphone practice that makes a big difference! I am an admitted stereo-holic and would be very disappointed to lose that from my Aux In. It can be seen very clearly on a comparison of the block diagrams. Thanks, again, for sharing that.

The Rumbles 40 thru 500 have a Stereo Headphone Amplifier . . . .

.
I don't really see the cab sim on the block diagram between FX return and the power amp, it is for headphones and line out AFAIK.
The only things are HPF and Deltacomp Limiter (for speaker protection).
But I could be wrong there.

Here's an action shot from last Saturday night's outdoor duo gig.
I'm using my Rumble 500 v3 head and Rumble 115 cabinet. Lots of compliments on my sound!
That red light on the head could burn a hole in your retinas!

Have you ever tried the 200 combo vs the 500 head and 115 cabinet? I'm curious on your view of the the differences between the two. Thanks!

I can't really offer much of a comparison, because I've only tried a 200 combo once, briefly and in a store. That experience might have been what sold me on the v3 Rumbles, actually, because after that I sought out and found the used 500 head. Not specifically remembering what the 200 combo sounded like, my guess is that it's very similar to the set-up I have, except that the 500 has extra headroom (cleaner low end, etc.).
Apart from two great Ampeg combos (little BA110 practice amp and 100 watt Rocket Bass), I prefer separate heads and cabs, partly for the ability to mix and match, and partly because I'm superstitious and obsessive about having spares in case of equipment failure! (At the gig pictured above, I had a Trace Elliot ELF in a backpack for my spare, plus another Jazz Bass lying on a towel on the rock shelf behind me. And extra cords, etc., etc.)
