Well, I did this once, just to see if I could. Left: R100 over R112 cab; Right: R40 over R200c. Chain was: Thunderbird>EHX Micro POG-dry output>R200c-Ext.output>R112, R200c EFX send to R100 EFX return; POG efx output to R40(EQ'ed differently than 200c). POG efx was to send OCTAVE UP(simulating guitar)to R40. In use it sounded like a bass and guitar playing unison octaves.

Nice I'm doing the same thing with my BDDI V2 and I'm getting pretty good results. Well I think I'm doing the same thing, but I'm not quite sure if I'm at unity gain. I set the rumble's gain nob about even with the BDDI's level nob. I don't think I'm about to hurt anything this way and I'm getting good tone, so I'll probably stick with it.

I'm quite frustrated with my R40. Here, back in August, I posted a problem that many of you assisted me on

But the issue has persisted. I have now tested my R40 with other basses, in various settings. I took my bass to a store and played another R40, and it had the same kind of oscillating waves at the low end, mostly on the E string (tuned to E). It gets worse when I play a series of very low notes in tandem (e.g. "Riders on the Storm").

I've had the amp seen by a GC employee and the shop that sold me the amp. No one could rectify it, and the GC guys really didn't seem to care much.

The volume is not high, Vintage/Bright/Contour off, even with none of the EQ settings past 10. Experimented with all combinations of Gain/Master.

In my original post I mistakenly said "bridge pickup only" but it's the neck only. Turning up both pickups deadens and mutes the overall sound, but removes most of the problem. I use fat flats on a Jaguar SS bass.

I'm simply trying to use my R40 as a practice amp at moderate volumes, and it's frustrating that I here Wubbawubbawubba every time I play "Three Little Birds" or "Theme from Shaft."

The only thing I haven't tried is GonePlaid's batting idea.

But, it seems everyone else has no complaints about their R40. It shouldn't be that difficult for me to get a good sound with normal conditions.

I don't want you to give up on it. I go for a 60's sorta Motown tone, but from what you're playing I'd say try B-9, LM-12, HM-2, Tr-11. Now, I use VINTAGE pretty much always and BRIGHT depending on room acoustics, so YMMV. I do use my R40 for some small rooms where we really gotta 'keep it down'. Our drummer plays lightly.

What do you guys think of the Fender Rumble stand-alone 150 watt amplifier?

There has been one in a local pawn shop for months now at $200 Canadian ($162 USD).

I'm looking for something a little easier to move around than my 63-pound Ampeg V4B amp if I ever play "out" again. I also have a Roland cube 60 but I'm looking for a little more horsepower.

Or should I hold out for a 300 watt class D amp to come up?

I'm getting a custom 2x10 bass cab built by a local boutique amp builder.

Slaphound, your story inspires me as well. It would be great to hear from other users about how their Rumble 100 outperformed their expectations. If I could get away with bringing just the Rumble 100 to 90% of my future gigs, I would be a very happy bassist.

Another question: With upright, do you find a need for a preamp? I've used one with my Rumbles, and it definitely smooths out the sound, but I'm not sure that minimal sound refinement is enough to worry about once we're buried in the mix.

A simpler version of the batting idea is to put a sock, or two, in the ports; easily added, tried & removed. If that does help, then some batting inside is the answer.
