Fender Rumble Club

FWIW, my default settings on the 200c are: Gain-~9, VINTAGE-on, BRIGHT-depends on room, OVERDRIVE-off/off(used as mute), BASS-~10, LOW MID-~1or2, HI MID-~2, TREB-10, VOLUME-as necessary for the room, TWEETER-off(except when playing CD's on breaks-and first tune after break when I forget to turn it back off). Try turning the tweeter off-it adds unwanted distortion and unless you spend a lotta time above 12th fret, is kinda useless-IMNSHO.

Thanks

Well, Yamaha has finally gotten Ampeg into competition with the Fender Rumbles with their new Rocket Bass line! And, on paper, it looks pretty close. It only took 'em 7 years to catch up. The RB-115 even looks 1/2 lb. lighter and just $30 more. But the RB-112 is almost 4 lb.s heavier and is $100 more! Plus, all the Ampegs are just 3-band EQ to Fenders 4-band for the 40 & up.

Oops! When making that comparison chart I wrongly assumed the RB-210 and RB-115 to be 70% of full power at 8 ohms, like the Rumbles are. But, since I've found the owner's manual, I see they are only 50% of full power at 8 ohms, instead.

Oops, again! I'm still learning about the new Ampeg Rocket Bass features. And, I was wrong, again, last time about the RB-112 not having an FX Loop. It does have one! Sorry for my previous errors about these.

Once again, I've updated the chart comparing Fender Rumbles to the new Ampeg Rocket Bass amps. This time I've added the physical dimensions in inches and was very surprised at the difference in overall sizes, by volume. The R200 and RB-115 are the closest on most counts (except standalone power) while the R100 and RB-112 are the furtherest apart. Adding the percentage difference column was very surprising. Please double check my math.

Fun for us engineering types. Perfect for bookkeeping types.

They said there'd be no math.

Thanks.

Its really not a bad 'distortion' ( wrong word to use perhaps) but the amp gain knob does have significant impact. Could that also be a combination of brighter roundwound strings, a brighter punchier instrument (maple neck/fingerboard), a gain on the compressore, plus the pre amp in the bass, all 'pushing' the sound more significantly?

Should I embrace the 'honk' /different vibe or be concerned?

Tomorrow Ill make some recordings
Try it with no pedals and gain at min. It can overload one of your pedals too (had that with some compressors before).

Don't think so. It's only clipping the signal (distortion). I actually liked that sound from my cheap compressor, was kind of a vintage tube-like compressed/overdriven vibe. :)

Thanks. Yeah I've got a tube in the markbass Compressore, which I like. The tube effect can be a lot more pronounced with this new active Sterling music man. So I've just got to dial back the gain on the Compressore. But certainly good to be able to use that overdrive vibe where needed :bassist:

Breakthrough in Rumble 40 Sound Problem

So, it seems that GonePlaid and G-Dog were on the right track. Referring back here:
Fender Rumble Club

I finally followed their advice and stuck old socks in the vent holes of my R40, and the sound was significantly improved. So, I guess I'll try batting tomorrow.

Should this batting be a sheet or something? I'll check back in the thread.

Thanks to GonePlaid for the original idea and G-Dog for the tip on trying socks as a preliminary test. And thanks to the other members that gave suggestions as well.

Kije, the 40 is kinda on the cusp between the small and large combos, where loose batting works for small and sheets seem better for large. See the examples linked in the Rumble Modifications section of the Rumble Club Wiki page. So, whichever you choose to go with, I'd recommend moderation, especially if your Rumble is still under warranty. More than one user has had to remove excess batting after putting in too much.

Good luck.

I stuffed my R200 with cash. Sounds great, like a really expensive rig.
Good luck.

I like the new models visually. May try the 1x10 just for a different tone. Keeping my awesome R200c.

Love that bass. What model?

Uh, ... mmm, ... well, that's a Dell XPS laptop in that pic, Lovey. Not real big on bass, but it can play tunes. Is that what you meant?

Was there something else you had questions about in "replying" (but not commenting) to my other two posts? Or am I missing something?

I put in some batting today. I used the fluffy stuff and tucked it mostly around the perimeter and behind the vent holes. So far, it sounds just like when I stuffed the socks in (I've removed them).

All sounds good, but there is a poot sound when I hit a low note aggressively. I heard the same thing last night with the sock plugs.
