Hi GD, thanks for the info and the invite.

Yup i have a recently acquired Rumble 40. I have downsized after many years of playing bigger and more expensive boutique-y sorts of amplification; i'm sure you could fill in the name blanks. I have been aware of the Rumble line for years but frankly never paid any attention to the products. I wasn't sure what i was going to keep/sell/use now in my downsized Olde Farte Golden Yeares, was wandering thru my local music store and saw the Rumble 40. I did some online searching and found pretty much universal praise for this combo, plus had a few conversations with experienced users. Went back and bought the R40 and i must say i was AMAZED at the quality of sound, features and construction. What a dumbs**t i've been all these years to not have joined the Rumble world a long time ago (not to mention gotten that quality and saved a bunch of ducats).

So i'm in the process of learning about the line and coming up to speed on products, who knows maybe i'll decide not to downsize after all

Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge. To help learn about the current V3 Rumble line, start with the Summary Info Chart to compare models. The previous Fender Custom Shop Rumble, and the V1 and V2 Rumbles are shown here and discussed in one of the Rumble Talks called Fender Rumble History. And I'm really a fan of the Fender Rumble bass modeling amps! Feel free to ask here anything about the current or previous Rumbles, we love to discuss.

But I, too, never paid much attention to the Rumble V1s or V2s, choosing instead the more serious, and expensive, Bassman amps. And I simply did not believe the ad info for the new Rumble 500 combo when it first came out 9 years ago!! But it made a believer outta me! Then this club has since piqued my interest in the serious V2 Rumbles, like @Thinline's Rumble 350 head with 1x12" and 2x8" Neo speaker cabs!! I even developed an interest in the V1s with the pulsing red lights in the bottom ports, especially since I jammed with a great guitar player using a V1 Rumble 25! Lotta cool history behind these wonderful amps & cabs.

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, gl, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. You're already fitting right in! But, you know, we all love to ... ... ...

Thanks for all this GD. I'm just a guy with a day job, now retired, who loves elec. bass and played as a hobby but luckily with some excellent musicians who pushed me to be not too bad! Americana, folk, some jazzy blues, backing lead and rhythm guitars and mandolin/dobro. Those 3 also sang, lots of cool vocal harmonies. Also some great times in a duo backing acoustic guitarist/singer. Passive 4-string P bass, solid stuff, nothing fancy. We had a couple great shows warming up for heavyweights so that was a cool way to end up before the pandemic shut everything down. I've since moved to Oregon and haven't gotten off my butt and out to play, motivation has become hard to find. But i do think about maybe trying to find a guitarist/singer to do the duo thing again, i really liked that format. No big volume, no screaming guitars or drums (hooray!). The Rumble series offers everything i could ever want or need and actually afford without getting the stink-eye from my wife (again...and again...and again...and...).

The one major downside to Rumbles is that once you have one, you gotta have another. And another. I'm on my third. I know that I don't need to replace the 200 combo I had to sell when I moved to France. But I want to. And if I do, I'll want a 210 cab for it to sit on.

I had 4 for awhile: 40, 100, 200c, and 112cab. Sold the 112-it wasn't getting used-to a guy that really wanted one(didn't lose any $ ). But still want a second 100 to "pair up". One o' these days...

My R25 faded out over the weekend with some slight crackling. Tried different instruments and different cables. Definitely the amp. It didn’t cut in and out like a short, it was more like the volume slowly faded out, then I got nothing further from it. I didn’t think to try cleaning out the input Jack but will do that this evening. Is there any other troubleshooting I can do before I either repair or scrap it?

Sorry for your loss (that's why I didn't "Like" your post). Sounds like the power supply or circuit board (unless you've got a cat that keeps dialing down the Master while you're not looking). If it's not still in warranty, it'd probably cost you more to fix it than to replace it. Maybe look for a used 40. Might be tough to find. The shop I sold me 200c and 40c to in Prescott before I moved resold both the next day. They were in mint condition and didn't last long.

I'm safe for awhile. I just spent 2500 € on a new 65" OLED TV this morning, so I'm running a little short of GAS money.

Yep, that's how it goes.. I started with a R500C, then got the 500H + 2 * R15 cabs. Then things changed, so I sold the stack and bought a R200C instead. For big gigs I can daisy chain the combos and get a 490 2*10 +1*15 stack. But normally I just use the R200C, sometimes the R500C, and very seldom the chained stack, no need for more in the venues we play. I also have a R100C, that's my grab and go combo.

I have a 15, 100, and 200. I'd sure like to have another 200 to stack with my 200, like people stack the 100s. I haven't heard of anyone stacking 200s yet, but I bet it would sound great! For now, I stack my 100 and 200.

My R25 faded out over the weekend with some slight crackling. Tried different instruments and different cables. Definitely the amp. It didn’t cut in and out like a short, it was more like the volume slowly faded out, then I got nothing further from it. Did the power go out? Does it still turn on, when you push the rocker switch on?

Yes, power comes on. Also tried plugging in headphones to see if it might be the speaker, but nothing through those either.

this has been a bed room only amp and has not been turned up more than halfway or left on overnight or anything like that. Honestly tried to take really good care of it.

I've read about the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound and I've seen footage of it on YouTube, but I can only imagine what it was like to actually hear it live. So, did the ringing in the ears ever stop?

I was getting by with an R100, but am happier with two. I’ll stay with those unless I end up in a situation where I need more power, Scotty! I don’t anticipate that any time soon bit certainly wouldn’t argue with it.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. I haven't experienced what you described, but I'm sure somebody here in the forum will be along shortly who will have some good advice to offer. Good luck!
