Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Did you notice any differences after you hooked up the 210? More brights? Low-end? An amazing lift in the volume? Etc? Also, any trouble keeping up with a drummer (volume-wise) after hooking up the 210? I am considering the 210 or 115 (for more low-end). Thanks!

I only had my 800 for a month or so before getting the 210 so I don’t really remember any difference in sound. I do know it can be cranked up much louder as the extra 210 allows for the full 800w to come through. Some amp models are way louder than others so if you need volume, play around a little.

There is a nice fit for the 800 to sit on the 210. I’m too lazy to go check, but I think there were actual spaces for the feet to sit into and I think I remember reading that they were magnetized to hold the cab and amp firmly together. It’s a nice package all around having both.

Welcome, Billy. I've now dubbed you Rumbler #1404 in your main Fender Rumble Club thread. Welcome aboard! :bassist:

My question is: do you make your own presets from scratch, or just tweak the stock presets, as needed? Also, have you tried the new 7-button GTX-7 footswitch? Android or iOS for the Fender Tone App controller? How do you feel about external pedals with your Stage? How long have you played bass? What other amps have you used? Any other instruments? Any other Rumbles? Do you have any extension cab(s) for your Stage? Any other modelers? Keep the XLRs set to the default Pre- & Post- or did you change to Stereo, for whatever reason? Oops! That's probably enough to start with.

Again, welcome! Great to have you with us.
.
GREAT questions!

#1: I make all all my presents from scratch. When bored, I will put on a favorite CD, listen to the bass, and try to match the tone. I made several of my own and really like the Bassman TV (amp), Bassman 300 Pro (amp) and 2x15D130 (cabinet) as my personal tones; then, I sculpt the bass, treble, etc., from there. This personal tones also cut nicely with a band as well. Some don’t and you have to find the one’s that sound the best for your situation, including volume, and sculpt away!

#2: No, I don’t use the footswitch. In fact, I sold it! I never used it and didn’t see a big need too actually. So, I made a few bucks.

#3: I haven’t even used the Fender Tone App controller either! I am looking forward to this, but then again, I haven’t needed too up to this point

#4: I have been a bass lover for MANY years. Then, I decided MANY years ago to become a drummer, and did. It’s only been 2-years since I crossed over and haven’t looked back! I REALLY enjoy the bass, the rhythmic, low-end aspect combined with the ability to create and write music more easily is wonderful! A whole new experience! However, being a drummer and maturing with age has really focused me and increased my skills at learning the bass at this time, versus say learning it at 13 or 14 when I didn’t care about music but only wanted to play like my favorite rock stars at the time. I am MUCH more into ME as a musician, finding myself as a bass player, including style and tone. I am much more away of this and even started a journal that I write in all the time. I will write who my influences are and why, the tones I like and why, the experiences I have playing with others and what I got out of it, I video tape myself playing and jamming with others and critically examine it, only to find how much over playing and “notey” one can be without realizing it! Same thing happened with the drums early one…fills, fills, fills, just over playing in general. I am a tablature reader and understand some notes from my drumming days. So, my practice includes drawing from tab books (mostly from Hal L.) classical and jazz, peppered with a little blues. So, I cover the whole neck and all scales on the bass. Then, I play with others, to music, and listen, listen, listen. The “Alfred’s Led Zep” tabs from Hal L. are amazing and I have learned a lot from these as well. I bug the Fender company’s website all the time with questions, and I listen and ask other bassists’ tons of questions as well. It’s been a trip!!

#5: I started out with the Rumble 25 and moved my way up to the Stage 800. Right now, I am seriously looking into the 2x10 to give me the FULL effect of the 800.

#6: “Keep the XLRs set to the default Pre- & Post- or did you change to Stereo, for whatever reason?” Can you elaborate on this? What should I know about this and why? Tell me the importance!

Thanks G!! And yeah….” I like to MOVE it MOVE it”

Good testimony, TOMMY, but you're confusing the combo/cab interface with the magnetized cups to hold Rumble amp heads onto the top of Rumble cabs. I don't have a Rumble cab since my R500c is usually enough by itself. But I've read many who do have both say that the indented rubber feet of the combo fit nicely over the top screws of the metal corners on the cab. Don't make a special trip, but you might confirm or correct that concept next time you're passing by your awesome rig. :)

Wow! All your presets? Now it's my turn to admit my laziness. I've copied a few tweaked stock presets and downloaded a few from the Tone Community, but never started totally from scratch on my Studio 40. Sir, I salute you!

Do you have documentation of your creative work, such that you could easily re-create those presets on another Stage or Studio amp or, heaven forbid, if they should somehow get erased from your amp? For that I most heartily recommend the preset templates and decoder files made by Rumbler @Droopy_TX and linked on your Rumble Club Wiki page in the Fender Tone App Support section in what I love to call The Droopy_TX Rumble Preset Experience sub-section! These are great to familiarize new users and to facilitate efficient manipulation by experienced users. Every Stage & Studio user should use them!!

 [gasp!] What? What?!? What?!? You don't use the the footswitch to quickly switch presets? Or to access the built-in tuner? Or the looper, ... or, ... ... I'm just flabbergasted! I started bass modeling with a Fender B-DEC 30 amp some 13 to 15 years ago and recall how the footswitch then really opened up so many features!

Truly, you're a hard working Lemur, Billy! The footswitch makes things so much easier!

OMG! :jawdrop: I cannot recommend this strongly enough! As much as I dearly love bending over the amp and twisting the cool Encoder Button/Wheel thru the various menus (that I can never remember the right paths for), the Tone App on my 10' tablet makes controlling my Studio just SO much more easy and even fun! :smug:

"...overplaying and notey..."?!? Hey, I resemble that remark!:roflmao: No, but seriously, I sometimes enjoy my live music so much that I do get carried away. Sorry. But, my jam friends say they really miss me when I'm not there. So, ...

My goodness, but you are indeed a studious and determined musician! I'm so glad you found us and are willing to share your vision and insights with us.

You don't have one of the cool old V1 Rumble 25s from years back with the pulsing red light in the port, do you? I love those things! Really!

I guess I was just snooping on whether you run your amp signal to the PA with your band(s) or if you do some recording with the XLRs instead of the USB. I've done neither yet with my Studio, but I like the idea of resetting them to Stereo both for PA reinforcement and for recording. I've never been a fan of sending a pre-EQ signal to the soundboard for someone else to sculpt my tone. I craft my tones in hours of practice and deserve to have them presented as much as any lead guitarist anywhere! That's just my $0.02.

Whoomp! There it is!! As bassists, it's our job to make our audiences like to MOVE it, MOVE it! Of course that's much easier to do if WE like to ... MOVE IT!! :woot::bassist::hyper:

Thank you ALL for your replies!! I really enjoy them and the wisdom you are sharing!! I actually built a mobile stand for my 800 Stage (see pics attached); complete with rotating wheels that are rubberized to they won't scratched wooden floors, solid as all get out, AND complete with rubber bumpers for the front and the back when it hits those walls (or anything else). So, I really don't bend over that far. However, I set my Fender guitar stool next to it and I continuously go through each amp and cab and noodle away until I find a "fit" for my interests, how they sound with a guitar player, etc. So, I continuously go through them. I am now at a point where I have narrowed down a few to my absolute favorites as I carve my own unique tone. A tone that cuts, is articulate across the fret board, etc. I am not a constant switcher unless I am recording a specific piece that needs a specific sound. Other than that, I am only rotating between 2-3 top choices depending on who I am playing with or what music I am playing too. GREAT idea about saving the tones somewhere!! I certainly have a "know how" from using them so much that I could easily dial them in based on the genre, style of the music and bass player. This goes for the amp, cab, bass, treble, middle, deep, etc.

As far as recording goes, I was super psyched about having a DI directly into the laptop recording software. HOWEVER, room acoustics are everything and create your own unique sound and this is difficult to replicate with a DI. I am an "organic" music lover, so, less studio/less processed and more real is my motto. I rather enjoyed bands that weren't over studio produced and even when a click track wasn't in full use yet. But, that's me. But, I enjoy a wide range of music and can see it's usefulness when the song calls for it as well.

Before I go. Anyone ever hear of a guy by the name of "Larry Graham"??? JK, I know you have. Well, he turned me on to the "Jet Phaser", check it out:

Cool, Billy! Sounds like a real Hendrix style tone. Do you have that Warm Audio Jet Phaser pedal? If so, how does it compare and contrast with the Stage's built-in phaser effects? As you're probably aware, there's the jetliner "whoosh" Phaser and the '70s MXR-type Phaser 90 to choose from. Surely one, or both, could get close to the hardware effect. After all, that's what modelers are for, right? :D
.

I wish I had the chance to try one out live and then try to replicate that sound/tone on the Fender. I have played around with the Fender enough to say that it's not the same, perhaps "ball park" but that's it. I would love to be proved wrong on this. Actually, I wasn't aware of the two types! Thanks for that bit of info! On another subject, I saw Metallica before Cliff Burton died and his tone, playing ability, and bass rig were incredible!! Such a force! He was playing Mesa Boogie at the time. Incredible! Stay cool!

Hey guys. I apologize if this has already been answered. Does the Basic Rumble R3 preset on the Studio 40 use the same tone curves as the Rumble 500 amp? I've looked at the curves in the wiki and was just wondering if that holds true for the preset.

Thank you!

We don’t have such curves for any of the Stage & Studio presets. But, I believe that, since it is the intention of modeling software to emulate sounds as close as possible, that it would necessarily emulate the frequency curves to some degree as well.

Anyone here done any kind of sound comparison between a regular Rumble V3 and a Rumble V3 preset on a Stage or Studio? If not with an oscilloscope, at least a good pair of ears?
.

I’ve got a Rumble 3 100 and also my Stage 800. It’s hard to compare because the 100 has one large speaker and the Stage has the 2x10. Also the Stage 800 has effects on it. To my ear, I prefer the sound from my 100 over the modelled sound from the 800. They definitely do not sound the same. I think it’s pretty subjective though and both sound good.

But the Stage's preset #4, Basic Rumble, doesn’t have any modeled effects on it. Doesn’t that sound like 100, other than the speaker difference?
.

Thanks. I'm really just trying to determine if the knob positions for "flat" will be the same for the modeled amp as the actual amp. I hope that made sense!!

Joe

When you say "the knob positions for 'flat'" and having referred to the frequency curves, you must mean the 10:00 bass, 1:30 low mid, 2:00 high mid, and 9:30 treble clock settings, right? They are often approximated as 10, 2, 2, 10.

TOMMY, please try this on your 100, but also need to check the settings on your Stage, preset #4, Basic Rumble, also, which may not be in clock reading mode. 10, 2, 2, 10 clock reading is 3.0, 7.0, 7.0, 3.0 by numbers. 10:00, 1:30, 2:00, 9:30 by clock reading is 3.0, 6.5, 7.0, 2.5 by the numbers. Then, too, the order of bass, low mid, high mid, treble on the 100 may be different on the Stage, like treble, mid, bass, or something.

Ok disregard what I said earlier. I just took my R100 and put it beside my 800. I setup the ABY off the same guitar and set all the dials on my R100 to match my 800. It sounds so close to each other. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. They’re darned close.

I left both amps setup so if anyone wants me to try something, let me know.
The R100 features a 12” speaker. Can you please select this 12" speaker model on the RS800 together with the RumbleV3 amp model for comparison?

Thank you so much! I figured they would have the controls set up the same but I just wanted to be sure. I know the actual rumble amp is NOT flat with everything at 12. I just wasn't sure if that was emulated on the Studio/Stage amps. Thanks again!!!

Joe

I just recorded me with my iPad in the middle of both amps (Rumble v3 100 and the Stage 800 with the same Rumble v3 selected) and hit the AB/Y switch. Very unscientific but it is what it is. See if you can tell which amp is which. I’ll post the answer tomorrow.

Hopefully this link works for the .m4a audio file: [This invalid link has been removed]
