Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Just got a Stage 800 today. Its brand spanking new and I did all the setup and it sounds great!

BUUUTTTT, its already gone into protect 4 times. Volume dips out and comes back. I am not doing anything extreme. Just using the presets as they are. Talk to me Goose. Did I get a dud or am I missing something? (A clip light might have been a nice feature.)

FYI: I am experienced with gear and not stupid about how to run an amp and use my ears.

That's not something I've experienced, or even really heard of, Strange. Sounds like you got a dud. Get with your retailer for an exchange right away.

The absence of the clip light is due to the long developed Delta-Comp circuit that kicks in dynamic compression when the beginnings of clipping is detected. So, instead of a light telling you to do something, it just goes ahead and does what is needed. You can read more about the Delta-Comp in the Rumble Talks section of your Rumble Club Wiki page.

I will bring it back but a clip light would be helpful to show you when to back it off to avoid exactly what is happening. That’s what they put them on amps for.

Are you using active basses? Or just passive lower output fenders? I’m suspicious that the Ibanez and Gibson may be too much output?

Are the problems only when you drive it hard, but not extreme? Does it seem like something backing off can correct? Even so, especially being brand new, it's time for a replacement.

Both my MIM P-Bass Special and my MIJ Jaguar are active and have never overloaded either my Rumble 500 combo or my Studio 40. One reason the Rumbles don't have separate inputs for active instruments is the Gain can be backed off, even to zero, if you think you're giving it too hot a signal. Not like most classic Gain controls.

ETA: Other Rumblers with Ibbys, Gibbys, Stingrays and other active basses don't have any problems.

Make sure you’ve disconnected and turned off wi-fi. It can cause the amp to fade out and comeback if left on. It should only be used for updating software/firmware.

Good point, Shawn, I'd forgotten about that! But, at your suggestion, I did link your advice from Fender about wifi causing volume dropouts to the Tone Support section of your Rumble Club Wiki page. But I've never heard of anything causing Protection Mode.

Wait really? How would you change presets on the app? I thought that was a selling point of the amp.

Wifi is strictly for firmware updates only. Nothing else. Turn it off when not updating. The Tone App uses Bluetooth only.

I think that actually worked! Thanks! Will report back if I have any more problems.

SO glad that helped! Thanks to Shawn for recalling that little known advice.

But don't discount a replacement before your seller's return policy runs out. You might see if you can invoke the Protection Mode on command. That seems like a replacement level fault.

This has happened to me and others and it was reported in this same thread: Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

in this same thread
  • Added menu item to forget all paired Bluetooth devices
After unpairing all devices the Tone App will continue to function normally.
Keeping the wi-fi off and turning it on just when updating the firmware is also advisable.

Update on cut-out issue with my Stage 800:

No word from Fender Customer Service...

I took the unit back down to base firmware. Started it up and played for 20+ min with no cut-out. Ok, this is a positive. Under previous conditions, I would have had multiple cut-outs within 20 mins.
Connected to Wi-Fi, performed update, latest firmware downloaded and installed, no problem.
Turned on the unit, did not connect any Bluetooth devices (no Tone App) and started playing. Cut-out about 5 mins in, same as before, 4-5 seconds no sound, then sound comes back, not all at once, but like someone is turning up the volume knob.

Crap!

Ok, what's changed. New Firmware and Wi-Fi connected.
Let's try turning off the wi-fi.

Turned off wi-fi with new Firmward still installed, start playing. No cut-out after about 15 mins. Ok, another positive outcome, but no access to the Tone App via wi-fi, and that is a definite negative.
Leave wi-fi off, but enable Bluetooth, Open Tone App and sync through my iPad Pro. Connection established, Tone App operative. Good!

Start playing, no cut-out for 15 mins. Excellent!

Leave amp and iPad on and connected. Go eat dinner. 30 mins later plug in bass and practice via headphones for about an hour. No cut-outs!!

I am cautiously optimistic that the wi-fi connection seems to be the culprit, which shouldn't be a deal-breaker for me as I should only need the wi-fi to download firmware updates. I'll log the amp in via wi-fi to do that when necessary, then just disable the wi-fi until the next download is required.
Will continue to test the amp with additional sessions and long stretches, but if I can use it with the Tone App via Bluetooth and that doesn't cause cut-outs, I'll be happy.
Did keeping it off wifi work? No more issues?

Is there a video tutorial on how to use the footswitch. Searched and could not find one. Thanks again!

I also didn't find a specifically footswitch-oriented video, Danger.

Have you reviewed the MGT-4 Footswitch Manual linked in the Stage & Studio Links section of your Rumble Club Wiki page? There are also several Stage & Studio Videos there that may, or may not, include a section about the footswitch.

Oh, and I just now found that the Fender website has a the Stage & Studio Links section webpage!

Hope this helps.
