Buyers were given the option of getting a later serial number if they wanted to. Given how much importance are placed on serial #s in general for instruments (and let's be frank about it--it isn't always about playability; and of course nobody is saying the first ten instruments are better instruments than 11-30), I don't see why this is surprising or a big deal. Nobody's being forced to buy anything here. We buy (and play) these instruments because we want them. I'd personally give Jason, Vinny and Joey the benefit of the doubt that they've probably considered this decision in all of its facets far more thoroughly than any of us reading this thread, and that their priorities here are not to make a quick buck (have you visited the shop?) but to make a great instrument at a more comfortable price point for some. With all the commentary hurled at Fodera for their prices, I would think that this opportunity would be welcomed rather than viewed so suspiciously.

Nobody was forced to buy anything here. We did it because we wanted to and can. Smart marketing on their part and last time i checked we all work so we can make money. Why are these guys different or being held to a different standard. I know i can buy lots of basses for that money but not many with Vinny's talent level behind it. I too know the guys since the first shop in 1983 and it truely is a labor of love for them.. And they get to make money doing what they love... other than rockstars, not a bad gig IMHO. I bought it because all my Foderas predate Mike Pope's influence, although we hung out at the shop together numerous times back then. I wanted a bass with one of the new electronics without having to carve up or change some of my older ones. My choice, no one else's. #8 for me

Ok, so not having read all of Mike's previous comments regarding the extended "B" headstock, why would he have it on his signature bass if it doesn't do anything? Is it just for looks or to sell the "feature"? I wouldn't think so. If it doesn't affect the string tension (which FWIW, I don't see why it would either), or the feel and/or tone of the B string, what does it do?

guys I will clear this all up for you an remove all of the mystery as to WHY I have the extended B. This is fact and not up for discussion.

When we did my Koa bass, we were trying to integrate as many "old Fender" attributes as possible. One attribute we were going to try...again as an experiment, not with an expected result....was to terminate the E, A, and D string the same way, on a FLAT headstock, as it is on a fender. That meant that the E needed to the first after the nut, and the A needed to be next. The D is already the last one on the other side.

So the B string was relagated to the end. That's why that bass was that way. And my current one is that way for consistancy.

That's it.

Argue to your hearts content. It's not anout physics for me.
