Even though not a Fodera owner myself, couldn't help but stumble on the thread. RE the slap fest, I'm with y'all, just pure wankery and having no musical substance whatsoever. Granted, I have heard examples of slap playing that are musically interesting and well thought-through, but sadly it doesn't happen enough. When I saw that little NAMM vid, the only thing I could say was, where's an angry grizzly bear when you need one?
Our running joke for the NAMM Show was "bucket of chicken!" We'd say that whenever we heard a player going all slappity pappity (which was pretty much non-stop). Phil Maneri vowed not to slap at the Show at all, but even he violated that rule on a couple of occasions. Not sure what it is about that show that makes folks want to play that stuff...
