Fodera Yin-Yang Standard Wait Support Group

Yeah! That was awesome. Fodera custom bass guitars are crafted by hand using some of the oldest, rarest, most beautiful wood in the world. Highly skilled artisans collaborate with musicians to construct handmade bass guitars and solid body electric guitars that are works of art, responding and resonating like no other instruments available on the market today.

Interesting string discussion. I have sent a set of Thomastik-Infeld flats to Fodera to put on my YY Deluxe, something that Jason tells me they have never previously tried. I am a recent convert to these strings, but I absolutely love them on my Fender. Whether they will be as impressive on the Fodera is yet to be seen, but I love everything about them, the feel, the tone, the whole bit. I am anxiously awaiting feedback from Jason about what they think of them. I can, of course, always change them later, but I really wanted the bass set up by Fodera for the lowest action possible with these strings. I will, MAYBE, have my new bass in hand by sometime next week. We'll see!

for what it's worth, i have thomastiks on two fodera 6-strings. sound great, imho.

You guys are wacky - the only thing that gets flats are my Rob Allens :D

I just put on a set of Fodera 40-100s and so far so good. They have a bit more tension than the VW strings and maybe a tad more girth to the tone. They still have plenty of snap and bending the G string is easy (same diameter). Truth be told I could go either way...

So am I correct to say "you go both ways?"

LOL

It saves an hour or so...but when trying to get a price down from $7,000 - $8,000 to $5,750 and NOT compromise tone or playability, every little bit helps!

Cheers,

Man, I'm very tempted to get one of these. Jason, why the decision to go with a non-angled headstock with a string tree? Is there that much more time involved in making an angled headstock?

fwiw I have both angled headstock and flat/scooped headstock instruments (and have owned multiple versions of each). I don't see a downside to flat other than having to pay attention when changing strings, and I definitely prefer truss rod access at the body rather than the headstock but ymmv.

I have three 4 string monarchs and two emporers - 4 and 5 string so i can afford a flat fodera for my 60's R & B gigs. .Plus one of the monarchs has the emg pj setup (old circuit)

+1 on the body access to the truss rod. I generally prefer to not have to meddle with truss rod covers. But... I usually only adjust my truss rods a few times a year with the seasons so its not that big a deal either way.

The last time the Truss Rod Cover is on any of mine is when the pictures are shot of them...then I only put it back on if I am at a gig where I know that someone will be shooting a lot of photos...

yeah, i hear you, but i'm not the only one. seems like i've seen a bunch of other guys do it.
