Fonkiest Filter

I'm digging the Mr. Black Fwonkbeta. Stanky.

Stinkiest funkiest drippiest funk tone is just the straight up tone I hear on the earliest James Brown records before phasers and flangers and choruses or envelope filters were even invented. But if you want to know an effected tone that I l personal admire and inspired by have a look at Geezer Butler's wah intro on NIB or Flea's sir psycho sexy on Blood Sugar Sex Magic (EHX Q-tron maybe). Not that I'm great, I'm not. But funk to me is yje "when" then "how long" (aka duration). The tone or the effect engaged being an after thought in most cases.

Check out the Zoom Multi-Stomp series. I have the MS-100 BT and it has a model of the MF-101 in there.

Never really got on well with the filters in the MS series. Loved the time and modulation based effects, but the filters sounded too digitally-dated and artificial.

I'm just getting into bass playing and have a few pedals in mind - first ones likely compressor, HPF (my amp is really boomy) and finally something to give me some funky sounds to play with. Thanks for all of the ideas in this thread - I've been following along closely and reviewing each option though video reviews.

Can anyone point out the main differences in sound between Analog and Digital envelope filters? The two I have my eye on are the MXR M82 and the S.A. Spectrum, the latter being much more versatile since it is digital. I suspect that if I go with the M82 I'll be looking for other pedals to add fairly soon after (such as an octaver). But anyway what are the benefits to sticking with analog circuits? Is it just one of those personal preferences type of things?

Personal preference. Some older digital gear didn’t sound nearly as good as analog... that’s not really the case with the latest digital tech.

The problem is that The 00Funk And the Brown Dog have been out of production for many years and to my knowledge no one is currently making them . So If you want them it is going to cost you if you can even find them.
My go to funkiest filter that really brought the stank was the Fwonkbeta but I recently got a Source Audio Spectrum and it can really bring the Stank better than any filter I have used before including the SA Manta the Q-Trons , The MXR M-82 and several other filters that slip my mind right now. And there is no it sounds digital to my ear with the SA Spectrum. One of the ones that slipped my mind was the IE Xerograph and the problem with that one was the operator not the pedal

Someone's selling this combo in the TB classifieds right now...

...reasonably priced, too...

Could you explain how the knobs work when using alternate controls and presets? For example, if you set the Depth at 3 o'clock position, then switch to Alt, then set the Mix to 9 o'clock, what happens if you go back to normal controls (switch Alt off)? Does depth stay at the 3 o'clock setting even through the knob is at 9 o'clock? Or does Depth stay where it was set until you move the knob again? I did look at the manual and didn't find that info.

Do the presets override all of the knob settings? And you can adjust from there by moving the knobs again?

Looking through the manual, I think this guy might be way to complicated for a beginner (like myself). I think I would get lost with all the possibilities. The reviews and demos I've seen look really good, but they're done by people who really know what they are doing.

I'd ignore the fact it's digital - the Fwonkbeta is also digital and sounds analog AF!
I’ve owned a lot of filters! It’s kinda my thang, and the only thing that kicked my SA Manta off my board, was the SA Spectrum. It will do anything you want it to do. And sooo much more! Octavers, phasers, dirt, anything a Funk-a-tear could want!
