getting crazy? Jesus I was asking an absoltely legit question. In the manual I cant see what the ring of the trs is connected to but I am happy to learn if you direct me to that page. Besides that, this is just my opinion, asking questions is what tve forum is for, isn‘t it? I am just getting a bit irritated getting an answer that takes way longer to type than something like „it is connected to gnd“ or „it isn‘t connected at all“. And to be honest I have no idea who the person is who ansered my question and I also don‘t see why this should be relevant to how I phrase my answer. I am oretty sure that in this very long thread are thousands of questions from bassists which are not experienced with programming a synth and probably answered which are answered in the manual. I mean what else are you discussing here? Just saying how well it tracks again and again? Anyway I am out of here, just to be clear analogue gear that is controlled with cv gate uses mono jacks and no stereo jacks. Before I put a cable which I don‘t know what signals it carries in any of my modules I think it is wise to ask.

Well the guy who wrote the manual pointed you to it when you said “I don’t have a manual” and you got irritated by it. There is this saying about “teaching a man to fish” that is relevant. Of course people ask questions all the time about info that is easy to locate in the manual, they should be no more irritated by someone linking the manual than we should be irritated by people asking answers that can easily be found over and over again.

CV does sometimes use TRS cables so that multiple 5V signals can be sent via a single cable, but in this case the ring is irrelevant because you have independent cables for Gate and Pitch- If you put a mono CV cable into a TRS jack it will just ground the ring portion of the TRS, so it actually doesn’t matter if they use TRS outputs on the Future Impact dongle as the 5V will be on the tip in this case. If you are worried about it you can also do a voltage check with a multimeter between the Tip and Sleeve and Ring and Sleeve just to ensure the 5V is on the tip.

Hi U just got out my eurorack and my future impact with cv cable. I have no manual. What is coming out of the jacks? I am wondering as they are stereo. I was expecting gate and cv.
Really looking fwd going through a quantizer and playing 808 samples and other stuff through my eurorack

This is at the bottom of page 22 with a diagram. CV/Bate triggering works wonderfully on my B2600 and with VCV Rack.

Control Voltage (CV) TriggeringOne of the FI4’s new features is its ability to trigger an external analog synthesizer using CVsignals. This can be done in any Instrument Mode. To do this, you will need to connect theoptional adapter cable to the MIDI OUT port. The cable duplicates the function of the MIDIport and provides two further cables, one for 1V/Octave CV and one for 5V/3.3V Gate.Connect the CV cable (red plug) to the 1V/Oct pitch inputof your synthesizer. Connect the Gate cable (black plug) tothe gate input of your synthesizer. Note that somesynthesizers have separate gate inputs for the VCA andVCF envelopes, in which case you will need to use a hubor splitter cable attached to the gate cable to send thesignal to both destinations.You will need to match the tuning of your externalsynthesizer to that of the instrument you are using totrigger it (and hence to that of the FI4). For that, it may benecessary to calibrate the CV signals sent out from theFI4. (Both audio and CV signals can be enabled anddisabled using Output Mode (OUt) in the Global Menu.)

Ordinarily I’m pretty patient and helpful on here, even if I’m answering the same question for the hundredth time. Today I didn’t have as much energy; I’ve developed shingles which is agonising and not conducive to sleep. I seem to have got cold symptoms on top of that. Am having to take anti-viral drugs strictly every five hours for a week. Hoping I started the treatment early enough to not get lasting nerve damage. Not the worst illness I’ve had but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I can report that cv out is working extremely well, much more responsive than midi. I didnt have time to rry more in detail but playing 808 shots or other bass shots is working great with my vpme quaddrumvoice

I am so sorry to hear about the shingles. Helped take care of my mom when she had it, and she woke us all in the middle of the night screaming that it felt like someone had set her on fire. On a happier note, my wife had a really good experience with the antivirals, so here's hoping you do too.

If you mean an octave-down version of the audio input (pitch shift), no, that’s not possible. If you mean a synthetic octave down like OC-2, yes.

The two sites contain much the same information.

In the midst of all 400 pages, I'm going to ask a quick and dirty question about firmware on the V1, which I own.

Is it possible to update the V1 to later versions of firmware, and if so, whats the latest version it can accept? Thanks so much, and please forgive me if I've missed this topic before... I have searched and scoured, though maybe not enough.

To prevent the wrong note from being played when vamping a single note (playing a hi-hat over and over, for example, sometimes a different drum sound will occur), would increasing the pitch bend to +12 be the best way to do this?

No, sadly not. Partly this is dictated by the interface but I think there’s also an underlying coding limitation. I have asked about this before and I had ideas of how to overcome the interface limitation.

There are ways to generate chords. Back when v3 was in development, I mapped the 4 coarse sliders to four MIDI CCs and programmed a bunch of presets on my Morningstar MC6 that allowed me to use button presses to create chords, even to have proper internal voice leading, with separate versions depending on whether the pitch moves up or down to the next root note.

There are still some ways to use pitch as a mod source to create different chords by making use of the split-point flexi curves. You can also use the other curves with pitch as a range control. Using the quantised setting for the curve will ensure proper tuning for each semitone increase/decrease on the coarse pitch slider.

Depending on how much polyphony you need, you can also use the flexis mapped to volume levels of oscillators to switch them on and off at various pitches.

Setting pitch bend to as high as possible and matching it in both devices should improve things, but it could also be improved by making sure you mute between notes so you aren’t accidentally feeding a harmonic to the input. Are you using roundwounds? These do create more upper overtone content than flatwounds.

Thanks for the many ideas! I want to get proficient with the editor before I bring in a midi foot controller, but it is definitely on my list, as I'd like to ultimately use it to control both the FI4 and Ableton for some live composition. Using it to change the coarse on the occillators sounds like just the thing. In the meantime, I'll give your other suggestions a go. Creating two chords, such as a major and minor sevenths, with two Flexis, and then subtracting notes with the other two is a great idea.

Yes, I use roundwounds. After writing this, I did try different pitch bend settings with the first four programs in the pedal while using the drum rack in Ableton (which doesn't have pitch bend that I can tell), and the +12 did seem to eliminate or at least greatly reduce other notes (drum sounds) firing while playing a drum line on the bass. This is all good and proper fun! Thanks!
