What's up peeps. Thought I'd share my new acquisition that I'm totally stoked on.
I haven't had a graphite neck since I had a moses neck on a 5 string stingray about a decade ago. Really liked it but the edges were sharp so it just wasn't the one.
Been eyeing this thing for a while now. It seemed like a perfect blend of "modern" and vintage with the graphite neck and Bisonic/Darkstars. I'm not usually a fancy top kind of guy but this top is wicked awesome and the red gives it a look that is just mean enough to satisfy my punk rock tendancies. I'm also feeling a JPJ kind of vibe.
Anyways it turns out that my hopes are proven right, it's clear as a bell but maintains a vintage tonal vibe. I have quite a few high end basses that run the gamut of styles and I've got to say that nothing I've played or heard has the same ability to maintain an "airy" open top end with the level of thump and presence that this thing has. The ghost notes and harmonics spring off it. It does not sound like a p bass, in a good way.
It came with rounds but it was screaming for flats so I threw some medium gauge Chromes on it to keep the high end without "zing" and now it plays lighting fast and thumps like nobody's business.
If you can't tell I'm a happy camper. This is a keeper.

Congratulations on your bass. It's pretty much a one of a kind, as far as the combination of pickups and the awesome quilted maple top/red velvet paint job.
Wow, thanks! I am very much digging it. It doesn't sound quite like any other bass I own and I'm liking it's slick feel. It's a fast bass, for sure.

I’ve been eyeing these up for years, finally struck. Never touched one. Played a Q once for 5 minutes (can’t do 16mm, 17.5 my min).
Looking forward to using this with my groove metal band, it may even make some recordings in Dec. Good to join the club!

You won't regret it, but be aware a GGi-5 is a gateway bass. I was fine after I bought mine for almost a decade and then the GGi-5 forced me to purchase a GGi-6 fretted and fretless. Be aware.
I've been meaning to post photos of my ggi5 and ggi6. This is my third ggi5 and the best sounding of the three that I have owned. Why? Perhaps Geoff knows!

Several of the musicians in the worship team complimented me on the tone of my ggi5. I was playing through my Mesa Subway D-800+ into one Aguilar GS112.
My Gould basses play so well and the necks are so even in response that it makes me free to play anywhere on the necks. Most wood neck basses have hot or dead spots that I try to avoid. Fender P and J basses almost always have the dead notes around the C on the G string.

I'm not dissing any brands or styles of basses but rather just stating my experience. I've had Fender basses that played very nice and had no noticeable dead spots and I've played some that had significant dead spots.
I sure did not intend to insult anyone and apologize if I did.
