I didn't know that. It makes me feel good, that somebody like me with such lousy taste put together a combination that others with good taste used. Now I ask myself, Was it truly good taste, or just dumb luck? I'll celebrate either way! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah. I know how it is. I bought this one a day after buying a Sandberg. It took me 3+ months to decide what I wanted to buy was a Sandberg. It took me 0.3s to decide that the emerald blue LB100 would be next.

I wouldn't have thought of that pickguard, but is looks really good on that bass.
Love pearl pick guards. Tort isn't my thing but many seem to like it.
I have a transparent blue SB-2 as well. It has a maple neck with a 3-layer black pickguard. At times I like the black pickguard, and at times I think I should change it. Your post gives me food for thought. Actually, what I'd like most would be if my transparent blue SB-2 had RMC and no pickguard, as TDR1138 mentioned in a post a day or two ago. But that just ain't happ'nin'.

On a theoretical level, would it be possible to take an L-2000 pickup, divide it into two halves and then fit them into a pair of soapbar shells? (Or take two L-2000 pickups and remove a coil)
If my Yamaha TRBX had been able to sound anything like the inner coils of a L-2000 I would still have it.

Talk to Nordstrand, he built a music man stingray pickup in a L2000 casing for someone on this forum. Perhaps he could help.
The important word was "theoretical" - a daydream combined my admiration of the sound of the L-2000's pickups with the single coil mod and my frustration with the sounds of the humbuckers on my TRBX. The bass is gone, so the daydream will remain one (and in any case, the TRBX's pickup routes do not remotely line up with the L2000's inner coils) but I was still curious to know whether the idea could in principle land on reality.
But speaking of reality forces me to recognise that it would be easier to simply get an L2000 and have the K mod done
Zowie, that is BEAUTIFUL!! More food for thought. And I love the no-dot maple fretboard. My neck actually has unusual fretboard dots--they're like the inside of a conch shell. I forget what they're called--maybe "conch"??--but they're very cool looking dots. Here's a photo of the bass, but I don't have a closeup of the fretboard dots, and I'm not near the bass at the moment.
That particular LB-100 has white pearloid blocks in the maple neck and small black dots on the side. I have a trans orange JB-5 with a similar neck. While they're pretty as all get out, I have found an issue. Every year I play in the pit band for a high school stage musical at my daughter's school. In the dim light in the pit, I *really* miss having something higher contrast on the face of the neck—the white pearloid blocks basically disappear.
This was a particular issue in the last show, Newsies, which is written for 5-string and is all over the neck: lots on the 5th string and lots way up above the octave on the D and G strings, sometimes bouncing between the two. I had to cheat and look down at the neck to make sure of where I was jumping to, and on the JB-5's neck I couldn't make that work without sticking some big fluorescent dots on the side of the neck to help me with navigation.
