I believe the M-2000/M-2500 and MJ-4/5 are still available in the custom shop.
It is in this thread somewhere. If my memory is correct, they are available, but Custom Shop only due to requiring deeper pickup routes.
If you are chasing MFD-Esque to load into your existing JB, look at JBE Pickups (J-Style Pickups for Jazz Basses - JBE Pickups)
Hi G&Lers, hope all is well. Question about the L-1000 controls. I know the Treble knob is essentially a tone knob, so I've got that down. About the Bass knob, does fully off mean non-boosted i.e., flat bass?
Theoretically, if that's true, I assume if I run Bass fully off and use Treble as a tone control, I've got the standard Pbass controls. Is that right?
Fwiw, I've been using the Series mode with bass cut and it's my favorite setting so far. Waiting to get the bass back from the shop for its setup.

Bass knob is a passive bass cut. Similar to how the treble knob is a passive treble cut (which is what a traditional "tone" knob is on most passive basses). No boosting involved in the L series for the knobs.
You do get some bass/output increase running in series that is partially due to a treble cut (capacitor) on the series/parallel/single switch when set to Series for the L1000 and partially due to the nature of Series v Parallel. See OMG Mode for details on the series treble cut for the L1000.
Right I knew the controls were passive cut only, but I think the boost or perceived boost in Series mode got me going down a (misguided) path! Got it, so Bass full on is "flat bass."
So to get close to Pbass controls, it would be Bass full on, Treble as tone. Is that right? I'd likely use this method of controls in Parallel and Single modes, and then use Bass to cut when in Series mode.
Single coil, bass full on, use tone control as you would on a P bass is probably what I would consider closest to a P bass tone. That said nothing wrong with liking series and a little bit of bass cut.

Played my L5000 for the first time in a few months today. I have said it a number of times in this thread, but I am saying it again. G&L needs to bring this model back. Likely needs updated string spacing to sell. Even though I like the narrow spacing, I am willing to accept updated spacing if they bring it back.
Isn't that what we said last year?...and the year before that?...and the year...you get the picture. I'm excited to see and hear these, but let's face it, for Jazz Bass enthusiasts, these are going to be a disappointment. They'll probably sound closer to an SB-2 than to an actual Jazz Bass. That's great for me because I'm not a fan of the iconic Jazz Bass sound, much preferring the sound of MFDs, but the company has to wonder how these things will be accepted and sell.

I just saw at least some of the new G&Ls with the new finishes on Sweetwater, including the Fullerton Deluxe ASAT and SB2.
Okay, for the hundredth time I've flip-flopped, but I think I'm gonna go for it.

Local luthier to rout a neck pickup and volume control.
Lindy Fralin 10% overwound split jazz neck pickup in newly routed position (5.5"-6" from bridge).
I'll have the luthier just install a volume control for the neck, and go VVT, with the three way switch left as-is for the MFD

Do it! I bought a used Tribute Kiloton to do something similar, only I was going to (maybe) put an MFD single coil from the SB-2 in it. I was talked out of that (about 90%) and thought about a Dimarzio Relentless jazz pickup instead. I was going to just use a stacked set of pots for the volumes and leave the 3-way pickup switch for the humbucker. It was all worked out perfectly in my head, then the bass arrived and it's so beautiful I hate to start cutting on it. Please keep us posted.
