G&L Club Part 7

As much as I love my l-1000 series 750. I just cannot get a single usuable sound (for me at least) from my l-2500 series 750. It doesn't thump, it doesn't do smooth either. Parrallel is too scopped and series is just a mess. I wish it had the omg mode like the l-1000 (the only position I use on it)

Has anyone else ever found these unusable? I hear clips online and they sound great but my bass sounds like crap.

Have you changed the pickup height or swapped strings? Both influence tone quite a bit.

If you want OMG on the 2500, it is just Series mode with a cap on one set of the coils to roll off some treble. Easy mod and was stock on L2000 at one point. Wiring diagram for the L2000 w/OMG linked below (see the two caps on the selector switch).

I owned and foolishly sold an ASAT, previously, but I'm back in the G&L Club for good with this beauty!

Hey y'all I put some Labella gold white nylon tapes on my fretless Kiloton last night and I'm hearing a significant drop in volume from the bass. Anybody else hear an output dip when going to tapes? I was using GHS pressurewounds before the tapes.
Yes. I've used Labella tapes on several basses, there is a slight volume drop, and also a bit of ground hum.
I've can eliminate the hum by anchoring my thumb on the pickup or bridge. (But it's unnatural and awkward for me,
as I prefer floating thumb technique).
How do you like the sound and feel of the tapes?
Can you still get a good sound cranking the amp gain/volume?

I've tried the stock d'addarios, ernie ball slinking, ghs boomers, and ghs pressure wounds. Pickup height is similar to my l-1000 which I love.

I'd love the omg mod on this bass and a blend knob.

I like the feel of these strings but not the sound at all. At least on the Kiloton. I can get decent sounds by cranking the amp, but I really think these strings emasculate the MFD.

Is it easier to see through the body thickness - near where the bridge end strap button is - versus on the top or back?

It varies by the bass I think.

Yes, it does. My Kilton is really dark blue (Blueburst) at the ends by the strap button, so it's impossible to see there. The grain pattern is slightly different from one side to the other, but the seam is pretty much impossible to see, at least to my eyes.
