I took some measurements from my 1500:

From the outside of the nut, to the center of the pickup = exactly 31".

From the front edge of the bridge plate, to the rear edge of the pickup housing = exactly 1 13/16".

Interesting. It sounds like your pickup is ~3/16" closer to the bridge. Does that align with pic #2 above?

Got a potential lead on an L1500 in the UK

Seller does not know the neck profile, but has given a serial number, unfortunately not previously registered on the registry.

However he did say it was a 96/97 year make?

Likely an 8 or a 12 or do we just not know?!

Any thoughts welcome, it looks pretty sweet.

Likely a 7, maybe an 8, but the nut looks pretty beefy in the picture. Can you ask him to measure the width?

The #12 profile didn't come around until 2010 or thereabouts. In '96-'97 it was just the 5, 6, 7 and 8...


Edit: looking at it again, that's the newer 6-bolt body style, so it looks to be '99 or newer. The pickup is in the correct current location.

I'd jump on it if the price was right and I could swing it in the budget.

#7 was the default neck for the 1500 at that time. Judging by the pic it certainly looks wide enough to be a 7, too.

Look at the two blue L1500s I posted a page or so back.

The older 3-bolt body has a shallower cut on the top part of the body, tummy cut curve. So the waiste isn't as slim.

Yea, top is 6-bolt.

You can also see it by comparing my two L-2000s in this picture. 3TS is old 3-bolt shape; natural is 6-bolt shape.

Kind of hard to tell because of the burst, but try and look at the outline and distance from the neck to tummy cut area. The angle of the curve is softer on the old body. Lower cutout is the same.

... I don't have an exact date for mine (though I'm always willing to pull a neck if there's a good enough reason), but I think mid or late '90's.

With a serial number, one can approximate the manufacturing year fairly enough, from a range of neighbouring numbers (±500 to ±1000) in the G&L owners registry.

Follow up question regarding my L-1500. Are there specs for how high/low the pole pieces should be, or is it just personal taste/preference that varies from player to player?

I'm sure there are some factory specs out there somewhere. I always just use my ears, adjust to taste.

I had a look on the web site and can place it between numbers.
