I might as well get in the club too. I've finally come to the conclusion that a 5'er with MFD pickup(s) is "me". My G&Ls:

Obviously the huge thing with the L-5000 is the neck and narrow string spacing--15mm is what this one measures. It honestly feels like I'm cheating. Being able to reach octaves on the G string so easily without having to move my hands much is so fun. I'm a fingerstyle player and the tight spacing doesn't bother my right hand at all, it just took a little getting used to. After playing the 5000 a lot, going back to the 1505 or 2500 isn't too bad. But playing my Geddy Jazz feels laborious. The neck has a really comfy P-bass profile to it. Not sure of the body wood but it weighs in at only 8.6 lbs.

To my ears it's a bigger, fatter MFD tone than the others I have. Very meaty and throaty, and it stays that way as you go up in the higher registers, which is sweet. The Z-coil pickup is seriously hot. On my Ampeg PF-800/810 basement rig I'll run the 1505/2500 at about 2 o'clock gain for an occasional flash of the clip light. The 5000 I have to back the gain off to 11 o'clock. Hot hot hot!

I haven't played it in a full band setting yet and that's always the ultimate tone test for me. But I am pretty confident it'll be just fine.

Anyone know roughly what the build time is for a "custom" order? Nothing too crazy- just want the color/fretboard of my choice instead of what's currently available from my store-of-choice.

I just had Gregg from Rocket music custom order a G&L L2500 for me and according to him the lead time is somewhere between 6 to 8 weeks. Maybe more this time a year as the factory shuts down for a week during the holidays.

Notice the new pickup placement for the LB? It has moved closer to the original fender position rather then being closer to the bridge.

It might be nice to have one of each.

Yesterday was my official NBD. Loving this flamed maple top, and the pickups are smooth as butter. The graphite fretless helps, too.

Had these 2 for about 15 years now. The orange one is a fretless and is really fun to play. The sunburst has a fatter neck and I wish I would have had the same neck profile as the fretless but they sound awesome- a bit heavy but awesome!

...while being in Europe, I placed my order in June and am still waiting. I almost ordered from DeGier for about the same amount of money and waiting time. But I really wanted a L-1505. I hope I won't regret it!
