Is this normal or something I need to get checked out? I thought I'd get a hum in single coil but shouldn't in series or parallel.

Usually your strings should be picking up the ground. I think that there's a problem with the wire going to your bridge to ground it. This should be an easy fix; remove the bridge, rough up the back with sandpaper where the ground wire sits, reassemble and go.

Thanks! Yeah, I asked G&L too and they said it was a ground issue. I didn't even think about this until it happened but I recently put tapewounds on so touching the strings doesn't ground it. Probably why I started noticing it.

NBD for this guy--a 1983 SB-2 on a smokin' Craigslist deal. This baby has been played and it shows. It sure has creamed up nicely though. It came with a bonus second neck that was a terrible homemade fretless conversion. Definitely a much thicker tone than I was expecting, but that MFD snap sure makes it sing. I dig it!

So since I'm using tapewounds (that don't ground since I'm not touching metal), does that mean that I cannot get rid of the hum? Or is it still a grounding issue that can be fixed and give me no hum even with tapes?

I tried the sanding bridge thing to no avail. That's about the extent of what I feel comfortable doing myself. G&L says I can send it back or have someone in Town fix it but I want to make sure it can be fixed.

Hey L2500 users, what is your distortion/fuzz of choice?
I have some good results with the Agro and the Blackout effectors Musket.
I am tempted to try a Fairfield Circuitry Four eyes fuzz and a B3K/B7K/AO in the near future.
