Hey L2500 users, what is your distortion/fuzz of choice?
I have some good results with the Agro and the Blackout effectors Musket.
I am tempted to try a Fairfield Circuitry Four eyes fuzz and a B3K/B7K/AO in the near future.

I really like the Xotic BB bass pre with my fretless L2500, especially with rounds. It can get pretty nasty!

So since I'm using tapewounds (that don't ground since I'm not touching metal), does that mean that I cannot get rid of the hum? Or is it still a grounding issue that can be fixed and give me no hum even with tapes?

I tried the sanding bridge thing to no avail. That's about the extent of what I feel comfortable doing myself. G&L says I can send it back or have someone in Town fix it but I want to make sure it can be fixed.

Yeah, if you're using tapes here it looks like you're gonna get hum, they don't ground like metal strings. No repair needed here just a string change. Very sorry I sent you down the path of sanding the back of the bridge, but I didn't know you had tapes, and I've had two vintage G&L's that built up a bit of oxidation there that gave me the exact same symptoms.

Oh, no worries. As I was doing it I realized that since touching the bridge stopped the hum, the connection was probably fine. Kinda fun to take the bridge off. That's an impressive piece of metal! (and explains why G&Ls are heavy!).

The hum is no worse than a normal Jazz hum but I thought with "humbuckers" I wouldn't get any (like my Stingray - but that's active).

Having said that, it's hard to nail down a good price for an El Toro. They don't hit the market very often- in any condition.

Good points. I've had a couple El Toros over the years but let them go for various reasons...and then regretted it. So when I had a shot at this '88 a few years ago in a rare color scheme, I couldn't resist. Not sure what the official G&L name for the color is, but I haven't seen another G&L with the yellow finish from the same era. It's kinda heavy, but it plays great and sounds completely outrageous.

So when I had a shot at this '88 a few years ago in a rare color scheme, I couldn't resist. Not sure what the official G&L name for the color is, but I haven't seen another G&L with the yellow finish from the same era. It's kinda heavy, but it plays great and sounds completely outrageous.

+1 -- very versatile. For heavier sounds I like VFE Woodchipper or B:Assmaster, or Idiot Box BlowerBox. Downtuned L2K but still....

I have the blower box but for some reason I can't bound with it. Sounds too much like an over agressive guitar to me.

I heard the spacing at the saddle on the JB-5 is more narrow than a typical 4 string jazz. Can anyone confirm if that is true or not? Maybe 17.5 mm instead of 19mm?

17.0 mm on all US and Tribute fivers.
The only exception was the L5000 with a [EDIT] 15.3 mm (.604") spacing (issued by 1990-1991).

Really liking the D180 overdrive with Dunlop flats on the Lynx played with a pick, kinda like the misfits or maybe acid King

'Wicks and G&L's get along just fine

It's no secret how much I like that L-2500, but that's a pretty nice Warwick,too.

I really miss my old FNA Jazzman.
