i get some buzz on the a string in the middle of the neck, but i can correct it by watching my technique
not sure if it really comes through the orange 115s much though

Some may have seen my L2000-SB-2 trade thread.
I am seriously considering just going ahead and ordering an SB-2 in a color I want, etc. etc.
A lot of people report getting a "free" quarter sawn neck. Has anyone actually ordered one? I'm considering it given that I live in Montreal. On the other hand, I can set up a G&L so a truss rod tweak isn't a big deal for me. Worth it?
Also, for those of you with Spanish Copper Metallic G&Ls, do you recommend light tint, vintage tint, or no tint on the neck?

It's still on their website (the new one). My wife's favourite colour option. Hope springs eternal.
I ordered and received a quarter sawn neck on my L2K. I live in New England which has huge humidity changes from winter to summer. It moves, but much less than my other basses. I think it's better, though.

Yeah like i said i have a pretty agressive plucking attack. Geddy gets this a lot too on his fenders if you watch any recent interviews with him where he is noodling around with his bass. Tons of fret buzz so i guess its pretty normal for guys that like to lay into the strings a bit.
I got a "free" quartersawn neck on my special-ordered 2010 JB, and bought a 2013 M-2500 with one as well. I also have a 2007 SB-2 with a flatsawn neck. Honestly, I don't notice much difference for stability through Philly's wide climate swings. If there is a difference, it's negligible, and they're all very stable. (My 2003 MIA Fender Jazz with graphite rods in the neck is probably the most stable of all.)
I do, however, like the extra rigidity of the quartersawn necks, especially on the five-string M-2500. I sense it when playing. The more rigid necks resonate differently and seem to contribute some focus to the tone. I'm not sure I'd specify a quartersawn neck when ordering a four, but I definitely would for a five.
my 2011 sb-2 neck is quarter-sewn and it needs a minor setup adjustment once every 3 or 4 years
I would agree with your last point. I doubt that matters much in a live band mix though.

Calling all G&L owners here.
I finally made up my mind. Got my used JB5 deposit back, I was not sure about the tightness of the strings on the 5 string neck.
Instead, I will place an order tomorrow for a JB4.
Just not sure about the color and pickguard combo with a rosewood neck.
Any suggestions?

Have you narrowed it down at all. There's a ton of good options in their site. You're probably going to get a bunch of them suggested now.
I personally love @/\/\3phist0 's silver flake. It's gorgeous.
A pearl PG might look good with that.
Edit: not sure if you can actually do that with a JB but it would tick a lot of boxes for me.
So I got my Blue L-1500 Empress in today. I have fallen in love all over again. I definately still love my LB-100 Empress but this new bass is hot and has some zing and some balls. Im loving it. The neck is smaller and makes me want to play fast .
CAR with a parchment guard, ruby red with black, or either emerald green or LPB with tort.
