What kind of settings on the bass itself have you guys found to be best with your l2000s? Of course amp settings matter too, but im new to these and theres a lot of options between 3 switches and 3 knobs.

+1 to what @jmlee said about inner coils...

Also, I use parallel, neck only, everything wide open.

Or series, both pickups, vol full, bass and tone around 70%.

I do like active w/ no treble boost because I go direct to PA usually and it gives a great clean and clear tone.

I have an L-2500, but close enough. I love how it sounds with the switches set to passive, serial, and neck with the treble at 75-100% and the bass at about 50-75%. I think the bass sounds much better with the treble up a little higher, otherwise it can sound kind of muffled.

L1000's are long gone (they would make a nice reissue!). Other comment: for the new G&L player used to passive Fenders, don't be afraid to turn the bass volume knob down a bit from 100%. Those MFD pickups lose very little that way and it makes the instrument much more controllable. ...IMO .

L2500 user here. Keep in mind, I play in a metal band with two basses and no guitar!

Volume: Full
Bass and Treble: 75%-80%
Bridge/Parallel/Active

I found about 15% off of full volume is my sweet spot.

Just finished a complete set up for my L2K. Love this bass!!

I've done a K-mod on mine to give me the inner coils on the neck and bridge pickups when the new 3-way pickup switch is in the middle position. My favourite setting is both pickups, inner coils, passive, volume up, bass at about 90% and treble at about 60%. Great all-round tone. Also use neck pickup, series, passive, volume at 80%, bass and treble both at about 50% for a faux P-bass thing.

That describes my home zone exactly on my L2500
And what I used when playing an l2k.
When wearing flats treble is wide open most of the time.

Replacing the series/parallel switch with a three-way switch so you can tap individual coils of each humbucker.

Not sure where the name came from. Some folks call it a single-coil mod. But there are multiple mods depending on which single coils you want to have access to.

It's a great mod. I play at leas 80% of the time in single-coil mode.

been using the bridge pickup a lot on the L2000 recently, it would be cool if i could get an irish red kiloton tribute with a 1 5/8 neck, cause the 1.5 neck on the sb-2 was just too narrow

Oh, ha, i have that! It was an option when i built the bass. Never heard it called a k-mod. I keep that switch in the middle. Sounds best there.

K for Kurosawa, Japanese distributor that originally had ordered some with single coil outters... the pickups in those actually had a 5th wire to allow for the switching and grounding, but it's obviously not necessary as people are modding to single coil with the regular 4-wire pickups.

You can adjust it however you like. Some people like the buzz; they find it expressive.

Do you mean fret buzz? I spend a lot of time when I first get a bass getting the action as low as possible WITHOUT fret buzz. I can't stand it and I can hear it in my amp. A small amount of neck relief with the saddles as low as possible to get low action without buzz is for me, an experiment that lasts a few nights with a new bass. I'm no expert, but I can tinker with it enough over a few nights to get it really low without the buzz. US G&L basses with PLEKed necks can set up very low without buzz.

Mine is like that. Granted, it happened when I changed the stock strings a couple months in. I can only hear it acoustically which is all that matters imo. If it's coming through the amp its another story. I definitely can get some of the buzz out of the amp if I start to dig in but it is definitely within my control. I've come to love that mean sound.
