NBD: G&L (USA) Kiloton Blackburst.
Caught a 30% Off Reverb Sale, it's a LOT of bass for just north of a G-Note!!
To tort or not to tort, that is the question...whether to suffer the (cyber) slings and arrows of Talkbass brethren...
Also a bit of a Fedex Snafu to report:
Tracking showed it arriving Monday 2/19 (Dead Presidents' Day), until Monday morning it updated to delivery on Wednesday 2/21.
Shortly after the tracking changed on that same Monday, the FedEx truck arrived with it. Luckily I was still home to provide direct signature.
That's a beauty. But I'm a bit jaded, I've have a soft spot for G&L's blackburst.
It's like a classic LBD, but a bit more revealing...

I got a Kiloton a month or so ago - GREAT bass!
One of my other basses has a solid black body with a rosewood fingerboard and BLACK pickguard. Keep the black - I think that pickguard fits that body design wonderfully!
I have a white pickguard on a tobacco burst body so I will probably change mine but keep yours - It's beautiful just the way it is.
Blackburst is one of the few colors that qualifies for the TB Tort Exception.
I apologize for the terrible lighting but here is my new Kiloton 5 in Margarita Metallic Satin Frost:
G&L is making a very good product these days and gets my vote for the "best bang for the buck". Hard to beat a near custom USA made bass at this price point.

I'm a tort fanatic, but I don't think they fit every bass. I just happen to buy only basses where tort fits just so I can have my tort.
But I don't think it fits on a blackburst, and especially not on G&L's blackburst. A tort guard would be too busy and would clash with that burst and a light color pickguard, like a white one, would draw attention away from the shading. However, the black pickguard doesn't pop out at you so it makes it easier to see the shading in the burst. Black is definitely the right choice on that bass!
Well thought out options on this one. This is one of those basses that on paper only I might not be sure about it but seeing the build, it's just awesome!

Definitely! The price of G&Ls is now making Fender USA models look like a bad deal.
How do you like that Kiloton 5? How do you like the neck / how does it compare to other 5's you've played?
I ordered one that should come sometime next month. I figured the 9.5" radius will make it sort of like a vintage radius bass but workable with 5 strings. You wouldn't want 7.5" on a 5'er.
I like the neck profile a lot. It is very similar to a Stingray 5 however the rounder radius gives it a little more "natural" feel. String spacing is perfect for me. Not as wide as a Fender where I struggle to reach the lower strings higher up on the neck and not as tight as a Warwick where I fumble over myself. This one has the standard satin finish. It is slick and fast feeling.
9.5" radius is a very good for this neck. Music Man uses a 7.25" or 7.5" on its Stingray Classic 5. I managed to slip the E string off the side edge of the fretboard on every one I played. Some people chalk it up to sloppy technique but I have not had that problem on any other 5.
I woud be very surprised if you don't like the one you ordered.
Thanks! Yeah I got the standard Modern C neck. I think they also use it on their JB-5. It's the 4+1 Headstock, not the 3+2.
It's my first 5 I intend to give a solid try. I've owned a couple 5'ers, (Carvins, etc. but no G&Ls) and never really bonded with them. I've owned 4 other G&Ls in the past and I keep going back to them. My main player is also a SB-1. The Kiloton is intended to replace it as main player and relegate it to backup status.
It sounds awesome, can't wait to try it out.
Just saw this on Reverb. Dang this would look sharp next to my trans blue L1505. its fretless but the photos look like it has fret slots cut with no frets.
