G&L Club Part 7

The topic of neck replacement has spurred me to comment on the absolute joy that I find the G&L online store to be.

My first G&L, an L2K Tribute that was one of my first CL finds some 10 years ago, was always in want of a maple fretboarded neck. A few years back I stumbled across the G&L online store and all the goodies within. I believe my timing was right and I haven't seen them for this price since, but I picked up a beautiful USA all maple neck for $40!

To be sure I needed to invest a bit of time & $ as it was lacking a nut, the frets needed dressing and the headstock was naked of any logo and I also realized I would need new tuners to fit.

Anyway, I'm just terribly impressed that G&L makes there components readily available to us at a very decent price. As a relatively new Ric owner I have become aware that this is most certainly not always the case.

yep, its one of them short scale, six string thingys....so far I've been responsible, but sure looks nice.

You guys are making me seriously jealous! I can't decide on the 100T or the Super Bassman. I'm afraid the 100t won't be enough and the other would be too much!

Truly a difficult decision, but for what it's worth, if I had gotten the SB300 first I probably wouldn't have been tempted by the 100T. I hadn't expected to be so blown away by the additional clean, round, tubey headroom that the SB brings to the table. My style of playing is very much inspired by Rob Wright (NOMEANSNO) so being loud is part of the equation but the SB is amazing at lower levels as well.

That being said, the 100T has a few tricks up it's sleeve that neither the SB or any other tube amp I'm aware of has. When it comes to grit, I came to find out that I prefer power tubes breaking up versus preamp tube distortion which the 100T provides effortlessly, especially in 25 watt mode. And what is truly unique is the DI post signal is post power section so all the great power tube breakup is available to headphones, foh or for recording purposes.

LOL. Yeah right! I think what I'm after is the power tube breakup and I'm worried that the 300 would have a bit too much clean headroom to get into it. I also worry that the 100t wouldn't have enough! The bummer is around here no one has one and there is not one available to give a test drive!

If you went with the 100T and found it didn't have the headroom you need, you could run the DI post signal into any number of options; foh if available, a power amp & cab, powered mixer & cab, power amp input of an effects loop of another bass rig, etc. You would have access to power tube breakup at relatively low volume levels with many options to reinforce that exact tone at any volume level you choose.

I got the SB first and it sits in my house on top of a Berg 610.... it’s at the ready should I have a larger outdoor gig. I loved it but did not want to hump it weekly to gigs so I got the 100T for my weekly gigs and have been totally satisfied with the 100T.

This question has probably been asked already but I don't feel like leafing thru all 376 thread pages ..lol.. I need a new neck for an early 2000's 6 bolt L 2000.. How do I go about having the Bass renecked by G&L??? Do they do that? The truss rod is maxed out and the truss rod screw is worn out from me cranking on it..

Didn't Moses Graphite make after-market necks for G&L basses?

The L2000/ASAT can be active and it is very flexible, i.e. It can mimic multiple sounds very well.

Also, be sure to consult a really good luthier. The neck may be salvageable after all, and perhaps for less money. I heard that the art & science of dealing with truss rod problems have progressed.

I got my '96 L2000 neck repaired locally...ski ramp removed, chewed out truss rod bullet replaced. Cost a few hundred $ but way cheaper than a new G&L neck and way less hoop jumping
I'd check that avenue first man if you can. I think the newer truss rods (which I'd say yours is) can be taken out and replaced, although I could be wrong.

i've done it both ways

my LB100 maple replacement neck for my 94 is so nice it's almost surreal, well worth the driving and price

jimmy coppolo reworked my 84 rosewood L2000 neck improving the tone and playability dramatically

You should really check out a L2000 or L2500 Tony. I have a L2000 with the #8 Jazz neck and it was wired with the "Special K" single coil mod straight from the factory. PLEKD to perfection like your Lull's. Its a tremendous bass. Mine is clear red over ash. Steve's vids are awesome!
