G&L Club Part 7

So my fellow G&Lians my other Bass is a Fender Tony Franklin and I'm just not bonding with it. Its great but I don't have enough of a need for fretless to justify using it as a tool. I play fretless fluently but just don't quite have the need. My main Bass is a LB-100 of which it is my soul mate. I'd like to get another G&L to compliment it but cant decide which direction to go. I had an L-1500 but the neck was too skinny and it didn't have the massive low end my LB-100 had. Some had suggested that was more about pickup placement than the bass. Would the L-2000 be the route to go? I have owned two L-2000s but its been a while.

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd say an M2000 would be one to look at. And while I am biased, at some point I hope to get a LB100 to go with my M2500 so same boat different angle I guess.

His photos are so good that I am not sure mine would compare..haha.

It looks fantastic in person. I will be putting it through the paces on a couple of sessions in the next day or so. I really enjoy playing it, never been a huge fan of really wide spacing on a 5 string, so this narrower spacing is really perfect for me. Slapping is no problem.

I'm sure this video has been posted on this thread but it's Anderton's tour of the G&L factory now that they are part of the UK distribution group. If you cut to 39:30 they talk about metal flake.



I have a CLF L1000 in Pharaoh Gold. I don't think it's quite as bright as some of the colors in the video but it is 3D just like Lee from Anderton's says. The metal flake is too big to shoot through the paint gun.

Otherwise, I’ve never tried these guys, but I’ve seen comments that they have done miracles....

Thanks for the info - I actually sent the country distributor email if there are any replacement necks available from G&L. It's a good sounding bass, so I'd rather get it working than sell it for parts.

Not sure yet, though, how much I'm ready to pay for a neck that might or might not work again for a few years. It's a budget instrument after all, so throwing money at it endlessly is a bit silly.

Ok folks, I need some help figuring out this wiring...

I want to be able to split each coil north/series/south. For simplicity, lets just talk one pickup.

So, I used the following two youtube video's.

Identify north/south and start/finish wires

North/series/south coil split

.

For the wires, I have north coil being green(start) and yellow. South is black(start) and white. I have one extra "black" wire that I don't know what it is, but it is tied to the north coil (green and yellow) as there is resistance across all three of these wires, if that makes sense.

I wired it up and the north/south works fine and sounds loud and powerful with each switched on, however the "series" middle position is weak, making me think it is out of phase with itself. I took the green and the black(copper) and wired those together as I didn't know what do to with this extra black. the other 4 wires are silver on the inside and this last black one is copper if that helps. I tried putting the black(copper) to everything else including ground but I can't seem to figure it out.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Ok, i think i have it figured out...

I flipped the yellow and green wires around and ran black(copper) to with green...

All modes seem to have plenty of everything now so going to solder it up and see how it goes...;)

Instead of a traditional series humbucking mode, one coil of the pickup runs through a .1uF cap (imagine your tone rolled off all the way and then some) and the other coil is unaffected. High end from one coil, low end from two coils in each pickup...
