I had picked a lighter blank (8.7lbs for the blank) out of about 4 of them for my M2500. I was leaning towards the lighter side, but mainly I liked the figuring. In turn the bass came out at about 9.2lbs. You'll get some nice heft to that L2500!

Yep... it is called Black Silver Swirl. I have a G&L catalog from when the swirls and L5500 were available and that is the correct name. Like nearly all of the swirls I have seen, that one appears to be peeling (near the bridge). The finish on that one appears to be in better shape than most I have swirls I have seen pictures of.

Cool bass. I was watching that one. I want an L5500 to add to my L5000/L2500/JB5. I would have jumped on it to add a fretless back to the stable (recently sold my fretless Growler). Unfortunately, I first saw that one shortly after I purchased my Emerald Balor Bass, so I was not really looking to make another bass purhcase.

How do you like the L5500? I know everyone says it is the un-G&L, but I have generally liked the EMG 35DC and 40DC basses I have played (which is part of why I want an L5500).

I won't know until I get it home and play it. The strings are old but the bass is in great shape. The finish has not separated from the body but it is worn in those spots by the bridge. Not bad, though. Just out of the box it feels good. I'm looking forward to it.

I don't really fall in line with the 'it doesn't have MFD's so it's not a G&L' camp. It says G&L on the headstock and sure as Hell feels like one. So that's good enough for me.

Any idea when these were made? From what I can tell mine seems to date around 1996.

I own bursts exclusively (yep, I'm THAT guy!) but I tried buying a red swirl L-2500 from another TB'er several years ago. Unfortunately he'd ignore my messages for a while, finally respond with "Yep, let's do this!", then ignore me again, then respond with "Let's do this!", then ignore me again ,...... After a few cycles of that I gave up and never got back in touch again.

On the bright side, the cherry burst L-2500 I own now popped up soon after that and I jumped immediately. So I guess it ultimately ended well for me.

But I would still love to have one of those swirls someday. Maybe when they finally start making 5-string SB-2's....

I have an L-2500 Tribute in red burst that I love.

1994-1998 based on the entry in an old Guitar Blue Book I have. Is in line with what I have seen in catalogs, so probably right.

I found another with a very close serial number (within 6 digits) that was from May 1996 so I figure mine has to be right in that window.

So while looking through some of my music stuff today I noticed how much random G&L stuff I have. Pics below. I am curious what else is out there. Post up what you have.

I came up with... dealer poster, dealer banner, G&L branded scratch remover, a G&L keychain I bought from an Australian seller, two books, an issue of Vintage Guitar with the L5000 review, and 4 G&L sales catalogs.
