That is a superb looking bass.
Slightly related - what fret wire would that be? I need one of my L2000 basses refretted and it seems to me that they use large fret wire....I'm just not sure how to go about finding the gauge. The fret wire on this red L2000 looks exactly like the fret wire on the bass I need done.

I really dig that El Toro in the clips you've posted. How would you compare it to say a more standard JB vs a L-2000 in single coil mode?
Much more output than a typical jazz bass.
Closest comparison would be the NS-2j you used to own. High mid output/growl that I eq out, but is there in spades if I want it.
My L-2500 does not have single coil mode(or I don’t use it) because for the music I use that bass for (Country) doesn’t need growl.

So many say lower the pickups and I say crank them up. I tilt the bridge to where the string nearly hits the poles and drop the neck down a bit lower than the bridge.
My '93 was set this way, got others and didn't sound the same. Noticed the odd setup on the '93, matched on the others and got the '93 ish sound. Some think me mad.
I thought the controversial part was that your bridge pup is slanted and not straight. Any reason for that?
Height wise - nah, pretty close to how mine are. Nothing weird there IMO.

+1 - I like mine as high as I can get them without getting warble on the upper frets. And I like the volume cranked open - I want that raw MFD character coming through.
Found out,on the bassesbyLeo link,G&L uses medium jumbo fret wire,even though I used jumbo frets,before I found out they use medium jumbo,which is not that much difference.
+100000000! I want my G&Ls to sound like G&Ls, and MFDs at full output is what makes that happen. Embrace not imitate.
G&L does not set them up that way. So that’s not what makes the G&L or mfd sound.
If you like that setup cool. But don’t say the rest of us who don’t like that setup are imitating because you think it’s how G&L should sound. If G&L agreed with you they would setup the pickups like that and they don’t so....
When pickups are set too high the magnetic field restrains the string from vibrating, and this is audible and sounds like a strange chorus effect with very little sustain. Setting just below that point is ideal for the bridge pickup imho. I like my neck pickup quite low to get an open sound and more contrast between the 2 pickups. But YMMV.
