Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

Did a gig with backline tonight.. There was an SVT 810 and head waiting,...

I had my shuttle 9 head right there and fired it up in 1 minutes time.. Holy cow the 9 is able t drive the heck out of that 810 cab.... didn't get photos it was too much mayhem.. but it looked funny on top of that big cab.. sounded great though...

I was laughing when I read this post because I was on a train going home from my gig where I just had exactly the same experience. I was the second time playing that club so the sound man didn't say anything but when I was setting up for our soundcheck, the bassist from the headline band saw me setting up and said "what's that?" I explained. He had never heard of GB but I told him it's 900 watts and only weighs 2 kg. He snickered. He left before we soundchecked but he did catch part of our set. He said he couldn't believe how my sound always cut through the mix yet it was still so clear. After I watched their set. The SVT sounded good but kind of sloppy and everyone else agreed that the 9.0 sounded a lot better. Even the soundman noted that although they use a countryman DI on stage, my DI on my 9.0 is a bit cleaner.

In the second picture:

There are two extra jacks. One is an external power source for the leds. Not sure why I did that..but hey...

The 1/4 jack goes to a swr channel footswitch I converted to a mute switch. This way the mute can be anywhere I want it and not stuck with the others.

Friendly reminder : The back of the 5 pin din jack is how the schema is laid out. If you don't want led's a spst should work, you just daisy chain the 12VDC.

Hey 9.0'ers!
I have the shuttle 6 and just got an uber 410 this week to go with it. I have goofed around this weekend playing the Genz Benz rig paired with an SVT CL and a 410 hlf. How much difference would the 9.0 sound with the Uber?
thanks GB brothers!

You'll hit the ceiling a little later with the 9.0 so it may sound a little punchier since it can get a little louder / cleaner.

I think you might notice a little more low end? But I only dabbled with the 112 combo shuttle 6 at a store but thought the lows were just fine. So that might be debateable.

I think overalltone is the same.:)

Ok guys, I know the 9.0 can do modern/slightly aggressive grindy with plenty of clarity, BUT, how does it do a more vintage tone? Eg Fender P with flats? Does it have that warmth and ummph?

This all depends on strings, pickups, amp and cabinet.

If all the paremeters are there, sure. I've played both a P and a J bass through the 6.0 and it sounds great, although not vintage as I have hot pickups on there.

As for the 9.0, it can only be better.

I go for old school wooly warm thump tone exclusively. I always play with my cabs tweeter off. I use a 51 and 53 P Bass and both the pups have been potted (to help keep them together) thus further enhancing that warm tone.

I have not heard better versions of this type of tone no matter the weight.

Oh....

Jack is for my mute switch. This way a normal mono footswitch can be used. put the mute switch anywhere you need it now.

The other jack is indeed a 9 volt jack. I didnt know if they used the individual connections for each switch to ground the led...does that make sence? It kinda sorta does...doesnt to me.. lol!!!!

Flat or do you EQ heavy?

I use the EQ Flat and turn on the Mid Scoop and Low Boost. Especially the Low Boost if I'm using my small 2x10 Cab.

I turn the Low Boost off when switching to Upright Bass and cut the Mids knob at 150 Hz a little.

I get this glorious old school tone/sound that is hard to describe.

Now one must keep in mind I'm using a Single Coil P Bass which has an increased Mid Presence. This is much different tonally than a Split Coil P Bass that has a built in Mid Scoop to start with.

I need to test some more warm settings, it's hard for me to turn the HF filter off though... it just sounds so sweet. I have been able to get RH450 warm with a good cut on the mids around 1:00 on the freq. knob. Unless Genz shocks me with some silly awesome update to 9.0 (say on 1u space unit or find room for FX blend) or I decide to go two channels ala 12.0 MAX I'll be funk'n this bad girl.

What I realized in my now over amp quest was that my first high end amp (6.0) had somewhat defined my tone and I spent the last year trying to find it in other amps. As soon as I got the 9.0 I knew I was home with Genz Benz to stay.

I have no problem getting old school thump from my 9 into a 15" cab with flats. I don't use rounds so I can't talk to that.

Thanks and thanks for the input above Red Planet.

Im pretty tempted to pull the trigger if my new job(s) I have just been interviewed for work out. My dealer has offered me a very good price. Its between that or an Ibanez Promethean 1x10 Combo...thats cheap, but Im a bit concerned its also very close to the tones Ive already got with the LM3/RH450 and Orange.

You guessed it....I LOVE amps.
