Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

And I will be able to carry all the gear I need for a gig in my 1983 280ZX!!

I used to fit an upright bass, two bass guitars, an overnight bag and a practice amp into my Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo. Thankfully, someone else was usually driving the band van to gigs (when I was not in the van, myself) with my big rig. But nowadays, I could have brought a Shuttle 6.0/12 and a 1x12 extension in the Stealth. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Of course, I now have a wagon (Audi S6 Avant), so I can cram a pretty ridiculous amount of gear in, when needed. :D

One of my achievements in my high school days was transporting my upright bass in a VW Beetle. Of course, there was about 2 ft. of the neck sticking out the passenger side door window.

And nice taste on the Audi! S6's ROCK big time!!!!!!!! :hyper:

That is quite an accomplishment!

The first time I transported an upright bass, it was riding my 10-speed home from elementary school - no handed. :D Now, when it came time to actually stop, I will admit to encountering some difficulty... :hmm: :rollno:

Thanks! It has been a great car, for sure.

I see we not only share the same taste in gear, but cars as well. Wife rocks an 05 A4 Avant and I sport the 08 S4. Been a strictly Audi family since 1999.

If the market pics up any I'm hoping to make a bid for the 2010 RS5. 505 BHP with the modified Bently 6.75L.

sorry for the OT guys.... I couldn't resist

I know I took it a bit off-topic - but no worse than most threads. I bought my G-B Shuttle 6.0 gear today, so I return you to something like your intended programming. Feel free to chastise others as well when they discuss ANYthing other than the shuttle 9.0.

But I won't promise not to reminisce again. It's one of my strong points.

That's not the only thing that stuck out of that window in those younger more limber days.

Where are the Shuttle heads manufactured? I am trying to decide between a Shuttle 9.0 and a Little Mark Tube 800, but they seem so similar on paper. If these are made in USA, that will probably be the factor that leads me to buy a Shuttle 9.0 (I like to support companies that still make things within the U.S).

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but my search did not yield any results.

well...... without knowing anything about what kind of sound you like, what type of band you're in and not knowing anything about your playing style..... you'll probably like the GB

:ninja:

Touche! I like playing fusion, latin jazz, funk, and standards, but I do play quite a few pop and pop rock gigs to help pay the bills. I like a clean/modern sound, and mainly play a Wendler Electrocoustic 5 with EMG jazz pickups.

I had a chance to A/B a Markbass F1 and a GK MB2-500 today and liked the cleaner, more modern tone of the Markbass. Anyone compare these with any of the Shuttle heads?

I have never owned a tube amp or pre before. How often would the 12AX7 in the Shuttle 9.0 need to be replaced (it depends on hours of usage, doesn't it, as opposed to age)?

Tubes can last for decades. I wouldn't worry about it. My 1967 Bassman head has most of the original tubes still in it. Service is often measured in thousands of hours.

From [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"Generally, preamplifier tubes last 5,000 hours or more, while power amplifier output tubes will last up to 2,000 hours. Near the end of their useful sonic life, aging vacuum tubes may degrade the sonic character of the product(s) they are used in."

So in a preamp, you're looking at 5,000 hours (or more) of service!!

There are some good threads running now, comparing the Markbass and G-B amps here on Talkbass - do a quick search.

In terms of EDIT: upper midrange clarity, aggressiveness and what I call "hi-fi" performance, IMHO the GB stuff is the next step up the ladder from the markbass.

Bear in mind I have experience ONLY with the Shuttlemax 12.0 versus the LMII, SD800 and EA Iamp Pro.

You'll sell it for the shuttlemax 9.0 before you need to replace the tube...
