I do have the 1x10 extension cab. I played it a lot yesterday and it really sounds good. It's surprising what the addition of even that little 1x10 cab will do. Twice the surface area, twice the watts, lots more bottom.

My feelings, exactly. That 3.0-10T with matching extension cab fills a hole that I had for a long time in my various rigs. It has proven itself far more capable than I would have initially thought. I want more Genz-Benz! Just another shameless plug for building a Max 18...

Don't feel guilty. It has-or is-paying for itself, and will continue to do so. If a piece of gear brings out the 'want to' in you, it is worth every penny that you have sacrificed to obtain it. Music is an art form. With the proper supplies, it becomes your masterpiece. Without them, it is someone else's graffiti.

Yeah, now that I have good strings on it I want to play every day. I love playing this bass - and this rig.

OK so I took my Eden WT800 and 2-210XLT (8 ohm) to the gig last night, great venue, great crowd. I played the first 2 shows with the Eden and it sounded great (as it has for over a decade). So I plug in the 9.0 and start the show with the settings I worked out at home (very minor 1 or 2 clicks).
Wow was the first word that came in my head it had more balls and cut much better that the WT800, I was simply blown away. I was concerned about the power rating at first but no longer. The master was at about 10:30 to 11:00 position and it was louder than the Eden (maxed out, all it would give)... and much clearer. It really sat well in the mix, really well. Most importantly I was delighted with my sound. Thank you to the Genz Gang for this one. It's definitely an articulate, powerful, warm micro amp offering. Make no mistake about it, despite the fact it's a 4 pound package that fits in a gig bag pocket it is a world class bass amp in power and tone.
Tonight's the same venue but I will use my Epi UL2-410, I'm really looking forward to this as this combination is why I bought it.

Yes it is articulate.. and i like the way it holds the Low B string too.. it has the oomph to let the low notes hang and not squash or compress them..

i just played a MAX 12.0 thru a uber 410 this morning, OMG! Imagine a MAX 18.0 through 2 uber 410's. I hope I can sleep tonight!

Yeah, they have a Max12 and an Uber 212 and 410 at the local store. I was offered a ridiculous deal on it as it's a demo. It's probably the best sounding rig I've ever heard. It also wouldn't fit in my car or in the space I have at most gigs.

Two 8 ohm cabinets is not the best match for an older WT-800... only about 240W per channel into 8 ohms, or 480W into both cabinets. Voicing aside, the 900W from the Shuttle should be noticeably louder.....

Actually these 210 xlt's are the best match for the WT800, tonally. It's my small rig, volume wise. The 210s actually each weigh about 10 pounds more than my UL2-410
On topic with the 9.0, it was not a good match with the UL2-410 at all, IMHO.

hmm....I have a LOT of time with this exact set up. What wasn't working for you?

Spent the whole night trying to eq the boom out and the bite/punch in. I really never got there. Lo mids were obnoxious, maybe 100-200hz. I don't think if we had a fourth show it would have helped. I spent more time tweaking, re-tweaking EQ last night than ever before in my 40+ years of playing. I never got there. It was a packed medium size venue, I played a Fender jazz with barts, bart 3 band with mid switch. I played my passive PJ with SD Ant IIs and that was worse. Tweeter control at noon on UL2-410.
If you have words of wisdom to share from your experience with this specific exact combination that would be great... and very much appreciated.

I'm sure I can. I have more questions though-
* did you try leaving your active bass "flat"?
* what was the room and stage like? The problem you're describing could easily be room specific.
* do you remember roughly, where you had your eq set?
* did you try using the mid eq to boost some mids that could give definition and then try shifting gears by
identify "offending" frequencies and then removing them with the eq.
* sorry for all the questions...just one more- did you have the signal shaping circuit off?

Yes, that is typical with this bass, I also added and subtracted.
* what was the room and stage like? The problem you're describing could easily be room specific.
Never had a problem there in 10 years of playing there. wood floors, walls, trayed ceilings a great sounding room.

G=2:00, V=2:00 M=12:00. The 3 EQs were varied from -+ 6 but ended up flat with bass at end of night @ 1:00.

Absolutely yes.

Yes I tried all three in various combinations but all off was best.

Ryan - Poppler's Music is the GB dealer here. I believe at the moment they have the "Uber Stack" (Max12, Uber 212 and Uber 410) as well as a Shuttle 9.0, a Shuttle 1x12 extension cab, a shuttle 3.0-10T combo, and another 4x10 but I don't remember which model.

It would be nice if someone bought the Uber Stack as then I wouldn't have to go in there and look at it and dream/wish all the time. Out of sight, out of mind.

Doesn't Marguritte's have GB stuff?

Yeah, but they've been a little slow as of late getting some of the new stuff in. I gotta check with Paul and see what they have coming in.......

I'm not really in the market for a new rig, I'm absolutely in love with my current one. BUT, if for some reason I would happen to be blown away by something like this, ya never know what I could end up doing. I think I'll probably head up there with my bass next weekend and see what I think.

Yesterday my surf band played an afternoon gig on the stage of a new music store...they took over a building that had housed a large electronics store and added a coffee shop with stage in front. My band is not very loud, and doesn't need to be with the style of music. There are two guitarists in my band, neither of which use more than 60W amps. For many venues, my Sunn Coliseum amp putting out 140W into a single 8-ohm 15" cab is enough for the bass. (I have a G-K 4x10 that I can connect to the amp and it will put out 200+ watts, but it's a 93-pound cab and I really don't like to move it around.)

The store set up a brand new Genz Benz Shuttle STL 6.0 head on a 12T speaker for me, and I didn't even take my 15" cab and Sunn amp out of the car. I am new to micro amps and found this to be an amazing combo. It's hard to wrap my head around a combo weighing just 32 pounds - I can literally lift the entire combo with one finger!

I really wondered what it would sound like - and when I fired it up, I felt that it had the guts and depth of any 15" setup I've ever played. With its tube preamp, it has a nice warm tube sound. I can't imagine playing any gig that wouldn't be more than handled by two of those 12" cabs stacked. I just can't believe the power and sound out of that single 12" speaker in that small cab enclosure.

The gig was standing room only - customers stopped while entering and exiting the store (the coffee shop is the entry point, but it's walled off from the store) and many of them stuck around for a long time. Of course, you don't often hear surf music played the way it was done back in the 60's - and that's the vibe we strive for. Everyone said the bass was well balanced and solid.

Both my back and my ears tell me that I may have found something important. I am going to go back in and play with this combo...and if it still sounds as good, I am seriously considering getting it (with a second T12 for versatility) and selling off my other cabs (Peavey 15, G-K 4x10 and homemade 12") and all but one backup amp (I have three of varying power levels). Retail is around $1400 on this combo, but they'll sell the amp/cab for $708. I am seriously considering putting my days of moving 50 to 100 pound speakers behind me.

I'm open to comments - I simply don't need the power of the Shuttle 9 - that would be overkill for my needs.
