I was using DR Silverbeams (Highbeams with coating) on my Jazz bass because I loved them on a P bass I had previously, however I bought some TI Jazz Flats but they sat on my computer desk for almost a month because I was afraid I would not like them. The I got the GB STreamliner and a few days later the D string went dead and we had a practice in a couple days so I reluctantly put them on and while I don't much like them on a P as I do rounds I loved the tone through the Streamliner and my avatar cab with them on my Jazz. Everyone at practice loved the sound too so I am one happy camper.

Hey guys,im not sure if anyone has covered this already in this thread,but will any 12AU7 in the V1 position help my STL900 to be less "gainy"? Im buying a Sovtek 5751 friday and was wondering if i should try the 12AU7 first. My Spectors pickups/preamp are very hot,and i want more available clean tones from the amp before distortion occurs in the front end-V1 area. Great thread,i wish i had time to go back over it to address this..

No gigging experience, and I'm probably not the best reviewer, since I prefer hi-fi cabs.

Still I tried it in a store, on a slow day when I could crank it up pretty good, and I thought it sounded very impressive. The Hydrive is a smallish sealed cab, and the tight, punchy low end seems to pair nicely with the SL900.

I got my Streamliner 900 yesterday and it sounds superb through my cab-see pic :)

Thanks for your input. I have a STL900 coming this week and I've been using the Hartke for over a year with a GK700RBII. It's a nice combination but It's time for something different. I'd like to keep the HyDrive because of it's smaller size and portability. I don't feel like lugging a bunch of heavy, bulky gear anymore!:smug:

I've been running my Streamliner 600 through a Hydrive 410 for about 4 months now and absolutely love it!!! I had already rolled the tubes before purchasing the Hydrive cab though. I still cut the bass and boost the mids some. It really has alot of punch with good definition.

I tried the "SVT settings" yesterday at a rehearsal and could not believe it. It sounds really good, and actually reminds me of a SVT with less grind in the upper mids and in general a mellower tone. But it is close, and most important, sounds good...
the tone becomes even more concrete and multi-dimensional using an external power amp, but this is the matter of a new thread that I want to open today...

It sounded great, but I just wanted to make sure that this is OK to do.

I'm looking into Barefaced for a new cab (it has been a year or so...). I'm still torn between the two opposite leading phylosophies: the classic bass cab (but with the well known magic of BF), and the PA-like solutions (Big Baby, Big Twin).
Your cab is one of the few that I considered. Could you describe with your own words the result of the marriage with the STM 900, maybe comparing it with other setups that you may have tried?

I have a gig on friday and will post a few words afterwards .
Regards the Barefaced super twelve, it is a brilliant cab and seems to bring out the very best an amp has to offer, I have not really used the cab in anger yet as it has such a high handling that my PF500 is only tickling it, the Streamliner 900 will make it work a bit harder which I look forward to .
What I like most about the Super 12 is the fact that it can handle any amp I am likely to buy, I had a pair of TC BC212s before and they farted at moderate band levels to the point of sounding crap, those cabs are rated at 250 watts each which is clearly not enough for a 500 watt head, the BF will allow flat out running of the PF500 with ease, the amp is the limitation with these cabs :bassist:

Thanks for the reply! Which tubes did you end up going with? There seem to be a number of different ones people have good results with.

The tubes i'm running in my Streamliner are.

V1- GE 5751
V2- Amperex 7025
V3- RCA 7025

The 5751 takes a lot of the boomy, or wooliness from the low end of the tone. While the Hydrive cab has plenty of mids baked into it. this combination works really well for me.

Glad we have a new influx of people to the Streamliner club, I feel like there aren't many of the originals around but this amp keeps doing it for me.
Such sweet round top end & warm low end that other amps cant bring to certain cabs
