Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

Ed,

This is my question, and I know this will interest others. In your opinion would there be a compelling reason to move to the Streamliner 600 from the TC RH450? The RH brings a lot of good features to the table and it is no slouch. Would there be enough reason for you to make this switch? I know Kjung will give us his opinion soon. What are your thoughts on this comparison?

the gritty tone in the vid wasn't exactly to my taste, but as Ed mentions, it would probably work really well in the mix. the video actually does a great job of articulating what I heard at NAMM, and it sounds pretty much how I remember it (minus the NAMM background noise, of course). the clean tone on this thing actually seems pretty fantastic.

to me, on an amp like this, the deciding factor is always the pickstyle tone... how it attack hits, and how controllable it is via EQ, as well as the way the amp reacts when you dig in. as i said, it did sound pretty darn good at NAMM, but i'd probably need some more hands on time to see if I prefer it over my Walkabout.

Ed - You can continue to one-up yourself. Very nice video. The section where you went back and forth with the 9.2 is the best part as you can really hear the warmth the Streamliner brings. It sounds absolutely fantastic.

Roger, Andy, Jeff and Genz Team - Damn you.

:D

I'm interested in this too, but it's a moot point at I've already sold my RH450....!

Great vid, Ed. Thank you!

"Facemelt" isn't my thing but I like it otherwise.

Edit: Nice job Ed, I especially like the flipping back and forth between the Streamliner and the Shuttle, it really demonstrates the point.

+1 on both counts! The Facemelt buzzing tube overdrive is not a sound I want personally. But I understand that will be of value to some players.

The flipping back and forth between Shuttle and Streamliner really illustrated the tube sweetness and warmth of the Streamliner versus the the cleaner, brighter, more hi-fi sounding Shuttle. Honestly, I liked the Slap tone sweetness of the Streamliner better than the Shuttle 9.2. (But add some EQ to the Shuttle 9.2 and I'm sure it sweetens up nicely as well)

WOW! Excellent job, as usual, by Ed Friedland. Genz Benz has another home run. Expect to have mine in the second batch from Rocket Music. Keeping my Shuttle 9 and adding the Streamliner. May move my Mesa 400+ to 2nd place, which is (was?) my favorite sounding head of all time.

The Streamliner could possibly make me re-think my Markbass LMII/III which has been my wonderful one-amp-does-it-all amp.

Thanks all, and my public apology to the crew at GB for being a spaceshot and calling it the Streamliner 9.0! Ouch! I went in and added annotations to correct the information, but it's all printed on the video the wrong way. Luckily, it's kind of obvious what the name is when you look at the amp, and I only said it wrong twice. What can I say? I've been using the Shuttles for so long... I just have a "point 0" mindset.

@adivin - I won't suggest you do anything either way. Best thing to do is try one and make up your own mind.

Nice Ed. Just the difference I was hoping for in the clean tube tone between the Shuttle front end and the Streamliner when set flat and not pushed. Fatter, smoother, and much more 'tubier' by my definition.... excellent!
