Genz Benz Streamliner Pt 7.....

Genz Benz will be the leader in bass amplification for a long time.
I just called GB about my STM900 hick-up. Jeff answered the phone. I told him the issue and he responded yes I've been made aware of your situation, I apologize. Of course we all agree it's probably a simple tube related issue (tube2). He asked me when I needed the amp next (gig) and I said my 9.0 will cover it no problem. He said it will go out today and be there in time for it. Interestingly I then asked him if he wanted me to pop the top and shift the tubes. He said no just send it back and they'll see more detail of what's going on. Wow what a company, the best at what they do because the whole crew makes it so... everyday.

The Doctor speaks the truth! I love my GB gear. It is an absolute pleasure to play their amps and cabs on a daily basis.

All the tone and Customer Support behind you all the way. Genz Benz rocks!!

I fooled around with my small collection of preamp tubes (recent JJ, Tung Sol, EH, old Brimar, Philips and Sylvania) in 12AX7, 12AT7 and 12AY7 flavours.

Differences were interesting but not earth-shattering. The stock tubes are back in there at the moment, and likely to stay unless one craps out...

Most tube preamp circuits are designed in a way that differences between using different 12AX7 (of the same gain) have minimal impact on the tone (and by minimal I mean differences too small to notice on your typical rock gig).
There are a few exceptions to this, but IME, not many.
This is just saying that HUGE, noticable differences in tone from tube to tube within the same tube family (12AX7) is very unlikely and enough difference to notice in a live band gig senario VERY unlikely.

There is a certain amount of psychological factor here -- you expect to hear a difference and you do -- you were told that a Telefunken would sound like this and that's what you hear.

DSFDF & YMMV...etc...

I sorta recall this same reply from Agedhorse/Hasbeen back when some of us asked about rolling the pre-tube in our Neopak's. I can live with subtle to no differences. Just so that I do have these 12AX7's in case of a failure is mostly what I require.

Spent a little time A/B-ing my LMIII and STL900 today. I have been in the honeymoon stage with this amp, so I just wanted to make sure that I WAS hearing what I THOUGHT I was hearing. yup. The 900 Is just thicker and warmer. Maybe not perfect for everyone, but it sure is for me!

Playing a larger hall this weekend 900+ capacity, and it will be my first live test run with both my new head and my new cab.( Streamliner 900 and Sealed 810 w/ eminence legend b810's ) I'll report back after the show! Gonna be a big difference from my LMIII and S15 Bag End Stack.

Yup! Customer Service is a HUGE part of biz these days IMO.
Gibson have just LOST me, as I suppose the question/part I wanted was too small to warrant a lotta-(read 'LITTLE' really) effort! Got an automated email response, then NOTHING for over 6 weeks ....& counting.
Seems GB are doing all the right things- especially in this day of ONLINE shopping!!!
Good on 'em!
BTW I grabbed a STL-600. Am starting to like it too. Still love my Shuttle 6.0 tho.

Hey all, some thoughts, just recently auditioned an SL900, now want to off my SVT CL, forget about tubes vs solid state, know all about dynamics, compression, all that, thought it killed the SVT tonally, love the voicing on the Streamliner, also use a Tech21SansAmp RPM through the effects loop, wouldn't go anywhere without it, all this stuff on other posts about whomp, girth and such doesn't really matter, i know it's about what works for your situation, just fell in love with what you could do with the SL900, now the Ampeg sounds muddy in comparison no matter how i tweak it, opinions?

I edited the above just slightly for me exact experience. Probably a tube in V3 but he said just send it back, even though I am completely capable of swapping a tube out. I know he has done this for several individuals, so to me it shows they are not taking the cheapeast way out, which would be to have the individual try several things first and then send back a last resort.

So Friday at 8:00 PM I had a hick-up with my STM900. Today Wednesday at 2:00 I had a new one at my front door. This is a prime example of Genz Benz teamwork. You guys are the best and the amp sounds incredible. I can't wait to let it breath on the gig this weekend.
A public thank you, well done GB! :bassist:

Always glad to help out.

Thats what I was worried about, but I guess you could just be careful, lower the bass a little and keep the master fairly low.

It can be hard to tell if you use a lot of distortion, but if you run reasonably clean tones, you should be able to hear the sounds of speaker distress from most cabs, well before damage occurs. Voice coil rattles, or an increasingly loose, "blowy" sound are sure signs that you're reaching your driver limits.

Back in my misspent youth, I was always well aware that I was about to blow another EVM-15B with my Traynor Monobloc...

Thanks! Can Genz confirm this for me? Would be very helpful, cheers.

(Weight of Neox 112T)

Wood density varies about 5-7%, so a variation of +/- 2 lbs would not be out of the question. The issue is that the core plys come from a wider range of tree depths and as the log is peeled for ply material, different growth rings have a different density depending on where the tree came from and the climate at the point in chronological time that the peel was stripped. Faster growth yields lighter, lower desnity ply.

The face plys have less influence because they are much thinner as well as more consistent older growth.

Natural products (and tubes ;) are going to have some variation.
