Genzler Amplification Club

Hey guys,
What drive pedal(s) do you like using with your Magellan heads? Just want to see what people like these days.

To be honest I think pretty much every drive I've tried through my MG800 sounds great... My current favs are a Southampton Fifth Gear for a little grit...A Catalinbread SFT for a little more grit...and for downright nasty dirt I always go back to my Idiotbox Blower Box...For Fuzz it's still my trusty ol' SS/BS TAFM...It should also be mentioned that if you stack the Genzler Drive channel with any of these drives, it's even cooler/nastier...if that's your thing.

I've recently been messing around with an Aftershock with the midi Neuro Hub for "all my dirt needs"...and it too sounds great with this head.

I recently purchased the Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra and personally think it sounds great. It can do subtle overdrive or chainsaw distortion, whatever floats your boat. It has low band compression or full band compression. You can set a crossover frequency for clean lows and distort/overdrive highs only. Also has a graphic eq. Very versatile, but there is a learning curve. It is not a plug and play pedal. This video helps.

I wasn't looking for breakup/grit since I get more than what I need from the MG800. But I did buy a Darkglass Harmonic Booster which I love. That, a Keeley compressor, chorus and tuner are on my board. Very happy with this rig.

Why not make this a "show us your board" post time...

B7k, mxr m80plus for a little grit. angry driver, rat, or guvnr from my gt1000core if I wanna get crazy. I did recently try the centaur model in the gt1000core and REALLY liked it, I haven't had time to explore it more but for a slight over drive it sounded beautiful.

I use two wildly different overdrive pedals. First, I use a Tronographic Rusty Box. A good friend is one of the creators of the pedal based on an old transistor Traynor amp. It’s a unique and every effective pedal. If you’ve ever listened to Steve Albini, you’ll know what I mean.

The other pedal is a guitar pedal (sacrilege!!!), an Origin Effects RevivalDrive Custom. It’s an incredible piece of equipment capable of sounding like a tube rectified Brown or Black face Fender, an old Vox AC30 or a Solid state rectified Plexi. Sure, it’s not ideal for bass but it’s still a blast to play through, especially with my G&L L1K strung up with TI flats.

@P Cheen --- If I could comment. This is a question we have been asked many, many times, as well as how well do the Magellan amps "play" with various pedals in the front input.
So after listening to various players and looking for pedals we could recommend, we decided to do this:

Wow! That's big news! Is this for non-Magellan or MG350 owners? Does it duplicate the drive channel on the MG800 (plus a couple of tricks)?

Can't wait to learn more about it!! And yes, I think we're going to need a bigger boat (pedalboard)!
