Well, since the 3s are what set this design apart visually, let's hear a little more about them.I'm happy to answer questions, as time permits.
I believe someone asked yesterday what 12" woofers are being used?
They are Faital in both the Magellan and Bass Array models.
Yep... I asked, and thanks for the response.I'm happy to answer questions, as time permits.

Are they Faitals, too...custom or off-the-shelf...open or closed back...sensitivity, etc.?
How did you arrive a the 4 x 3" array vs. some other configuration?
Is the array level adjustable?
I know how people feel about Piezos.
One tour that i was out on the sound company had an old Meyer rig.. The ones with "the dick" mid hi cabs.. not the newer line array they are now.. ( just did shows with the newer Meyer line array and boy does it sound great) Anyway . this was all run on old crests 7000 and 8000 series amps and a Harrison desk.. If you didnt peel back the grill you would never know they used piezos in the top top....
The system was very smooth and round/ warm. with deadly punch... must have been a 30,000 watt system..
Yes, but the piezos on that BFM design are very, very inexpensive. I don't mind piezo tweeters in general, but I did not like those (in that design, at least).
Yeah, we certainly don't want a rough tradition! If it goes deep and has smooth tradition it could be a home run
I don't recall any of the MSL cabinets using piezos, only the little under balcony speakers (UPM?). Everything else was medium and large format compression drivers.
Hey Kirk, I remember the S4, big, super heavy, loud all in one 4 way boxes full of JBL drivers. about 4' x 4' and probably 400 lbs or so. I do not miss those days one bit! Especially stacking and rigging them.
There was the Piston system before the Prism system, the Pistons were tall, skinny horizontally arrayable boxes that were a leap forward sound quality wise with much less comb filtering. The key was tight packing when flying, the same concept used with the Prism in the vertical plane.
But i really don't care. Anyone with an IQ of at least 70 can figure what im saying.. .HAYeah, we certainly don't want a rough tradition!![]()
You can't tell piezo tweeters from the front. A dynamic and piezo can look exactly the same. All I see in the horns of your pic is a normal phase plug in the center.
