That is the rig for just about anything .. And scalable down to one cab without losing ones sound.. ... 3 should be able to do the heavy lifting sound for even the most demanding and fairly high SPL gigs
The manufacturers probably just go with the specs of the provider of the power module they're using, unless they have some form of advanced power & temp management that they add to the unit. Then some manufacturers just want to be on the conservative / safe side of the future relations with their customers (esp. knowing there are a FEW crazy bass players who'll likely trying to provide stadium SPL at some TX outdoor heat-of-the-summer event without being in the PA).

The Magellan 800 will be rated to 2.67 ohms minimum load. There are specific reasons for that.
We are just a couple of weeks or so away from public release of full information--TB'ers always seem to get an inside track.
At that time we'll be happy to describe and discuss much more about the features, power ratings, etc.
Great. I'm waiting on a pair of barefaced retro two10 cabs wired for 4 ohms each, which I suspect are actually 3 ohms so, this am won't work for these cabs, id say. Hmmmm. And it's scks to wire in series and lose available wattage.
If you're correct on the impedance then in series the amp would see ~6 Ohm.
Pretty sure this amp will have plenty of stones at 8 Ohm, even better at 6; SPL diff should be negligible!

I recently played with 500 watts into 8 ohms. It was very loud. I do think you are correct.

Just retubed my SM 9.2 today. It has done 487 shows in 3 years and never failed me once. can not wait to see what he has up his sleeve!
I think the point was that the new Mesa amps are selling well so all that discretional GAS money may be gone by the time the new Genzler amp comes out.

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
Or, if Jeff knocks one out of the park, there may be a few D800's for sale in the classifieds. There's another amp coming down the pipe too which will also compete in the segment. Being a bass guitarist in 2016 will be exciting for all I think. Fantastic gear selection is good for everybody. Lots of "A" games I hope.
