My wife has had tons of trouble. Infections, several surgeries including a new ear drum. There is some tissue about 2 or 3 inches above the ear that happens to be identical. So this guy we see in
Indy dug some of that out and made her a new ear drum with it. It's thickened over the years from infections and scarring, so he wants to etch about 90% of it away with a laser beam. it's 10 times too thick and she can hardly hear in that ear now, so we are going to have him crack out his light saber and go at it later this year.

Doc says it's a simple outpatient thing and he has very good success with it.

Oh, certainly, and your well wishes are much appreciated!

There is always risk with any surgery, but we do have great confidence with this fella. A lot of her ear problems were worsened by a local quack and his knife. That guy also murdered her thyroid with high doseage antibiotics. We probably could have sued his pants off if we were so inclined.

To doc quacks benifit, he was smart enough to give up and send us to a very good ear doc. Also with her autoimmune disorders, she'a tough case. Her immune system can attack any organ and mock an infection. So she has to take an immuno suppressant to keep it at bay, which leaves her open to infection. So it's tough to determine if she needs an antibiotic or less Imuran.

Years back her imunity went after her eyeballs. She has to keep a steroid eye drop ready to go. If it happens, she takes one drop and the doc opens shop and meets us in a half hour, anytime. He basically confirms its uvitis and has take the drops for a few days and come in to see the progress. Hasn't happened for years, so we see him once a year for an hour long very thoural exam. He's cool. Lets me look inside her eyeballs. Now little devils dancing around in there!

The opto training I had as a corpsman was some of the most interesting training I had, I just wish that I could remember it all now! If you don't use it, you sure can lose it!

Anatomy 101 is fascinating to study. How cells work is amazing. Of course the other kind of anatomy is even more fascinating. My job at the university yields plenty of opportunity to study the latter.

Oh no.. I would be keeping a keen eye upon the lower levels.. after all they are the newer ones and have more to prove of themselves being in that new environment! So in essence, I would be ensuring that there is a good foundation to which it sits upon!

Interesting chat here... lots of parallels for me. I also give lectures at the local University, from time to time. It's technology, so very few "coeds" there. Some of them knit while they listen. Usually the women get better grades, much better exam essays.

On the health side, I am having an abdominal ultrasound to check my kidneys, in about an hour, and later today they will IV me with iron to replenish my supply so my hemoglobin can get back to where it ought to be. Oh, the genes I inherited. My dad survived with a kidney transplant for the last 14 years of his life.

Would that be grounds for disqualification from the club? If so, how much younger do the young'ns need to be to invoke a violation? 20 years? 40?

I've fooled around with some young'ns.............but that's another story .......
I also play with em.

About the knee, my gal got the bionic knee last Dec. 10th and was back to work before the end of Jan. Don't be afraid to use as much of the pain meds while they are available cause they'll cut you off probably sooner than you'd like. But then getting hooked on that crap sucks so it good they do.

Me too. In a recent project trio, the other two players' ages added together were still less than mine. The best part was they picked tunes like Stratus. It was super fun, but they couldn't get free from their day jobs for many gigs.

This is the first year where the "gig" I am doing right now includes young'ns. They are finally getting old enough to learn to "color outside the lines" with us older dudes. They have to be mature enough to follow along and pay close attention to what we are doing. This is for a touring type "equine theatre" event with the likelihood some full contact action, swords, guns and props. It's turned out that it's even more fun with the kids, they have grown up in this environment and appreciate the risks as well as the rewards. 21 x 12 hour days in a row, no days off, averaging between 2 and 3 shows a day.

Yep, the big band I've been working with recently has an age span ranging from 15 to 89. I actually sub for the 15 year old, but there are a couple more high school kids who sub in other seats. The 89 year old is the first chair tenor sax, and was the high school band director for a majority of the band members.

Beyond that, I used to sit in with lots of 20-somethings at open mikes all the time. They tend to get my musical bent much more readily than geezers my own age.

I'm sitting here in my hospital bed, with my naked butt flapping in the breeze. Color me happy. Pain is very manageable with the help of Dilaudid and Oxycontin. They are on their way to my room to get me up for a stroll. I guess we will be stopping at the disco after all !
