As I've gotten old(er), I choose my 'battles', or whether to get involved. If I don't like something someone says, I ignore it("next"). No one online-who has no idea who or where I am-is gonna get me into a kerfuffle.
True enough. I guess I just didn't like that insulting, arrogant "friend" thrown at me after I'd asked an honest question. -I'm choosy who my friends are...
But then I suppose I should just recognize it as only something right out of a ridiculous old Hollywood gangster movie and let it go...

While I don't wait tables in the literal sense — though in the figurative sense that's my whole life — Braun epilator.
What I also saw last night are uncouth men who don't remove their hat at a meal.

I get that. I grew up in an era where hats were removed. There were also hat racks provided in many places. And as restaurants try to cram in more seating, tables are smaller. There usually isn't a place to put one's hat and I don't wanna see hair and (whatever)from a previous patron's hat at my place at a table. I know the staff is s'posed to sanitize, but do they? Not all that long ago, holding a door for a stranger did not beget an ugly look and or snarky ass comment.

Years ago I lived in Sarasota FL. Sarasota is a yankee retirement community. There are 2 places one can order a sweet iced tea---the Waffle House on the north end of town, and the Waffle House on the south end of town.
The original is in Avondale Estates, Ga not far from where I grew up. I ate there with Dad countless times. It's a museum now. Museum - Waffle House

When I grew up it was simply common courtesy to hold a door for someone. If there was an older person or a lady it was also expected that a gentleman would step aside, hold the door, and allow that person to go first as a sign of respect.Not all that long ago, holding a door for a stranger did not beget an ugly look and or snarky ass comment.
There were a few years when some women would ask if I thought they were unable to open a door themselves, but over time I think most appreciated being shown a respectful courtesy that implied nothing about their status in the world or physical abilities. I received a thank you much more often than a lecture about gender equality.
