I have actually been a Bob Taylor fan since his early days and own an early 410 - I also own a custom built to order model in maple. While the article and his accomplishments make an indisputable case that wood isn't everything (aesthetically or tonally), it also clearly underscores that it is not totally insignificant. Having been around Martin guitars my entire life, and having gone out numerous times to buy one, I simply could not get over how much I liked the Taylor sound and feel better.

That is really cool. I've been on the mailing list for Wood and Steel since Taylor started it in the mid 90's and recall a number of tech articles that spoke about the importance of bracing and build techniques when it comes to how an instrument sounds. I can also recall many articles that talked about wood selection as a way to optimize tonal characteristics.

Though Taylor has shown you can make scrap wood sound GOOD, that doesnt necessarily mean you can make oak sound like rosewood, or maple like mahogany. My seven Martins represent three different wood combinations and three different body sizes, and no two of them sound alike. Now, whether and how that might apply to electrics, I have zip clue...never owned or played one.

I used to buy my wood from Martin. The wood shop guys would take the time talking to me to make sure that I got exactly what I wanted. They’d even ask for details as to what I was building. I used to have them send me sawdust as well from the pieces that they resawed.

Happy Sunday GOF's. Sorry I've been slacking on my roll call. Wife Carey is still healing and frankly I'm weary of being chief cook and bottle washer, and CNA. But when I think of how desperate I was when we medivaced to Seattle it all becomes small potatoes for me. For all the years she's taken care of me I can man up and do everything for the next few months. She is getting better and trying to do a little more every week.

We're doing Christmas shopping today, we're going to have another turkey dinner. Nothing bigger than a 12 pound turkey. Even most of that will get food saved for later. I'll be completely cook the dinner and clean up. We'll probably watch It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street. Some hot toddy's and pumpkin pie after dinner.

Fingers and toes here. Brain has been off for a week now, even off for me... gone numb again. Off work after next week, then go back Jan 2. A was going to do a shutdown of our network and roll out a big project, but I've decided I need the R&R. I need to "see with clear eyes" and ain't going back to the funny farm... no not that again

It's all done already, there's a ton of space to do whatever I want. The pickups are a trick prototype set and we're hoping to use a similar format for a fretted NAMM showpiece build if this one pans out.

Present and functional. Gonna have to scramble a bit at work tomorrow. They sent me a package to trim out a house last Thursday. Whoever marked it had really sloppy handwriting. It was marked for the job number and lot number. I looked at it and took it into the house and went to work. Six hours later , the house had all its plumbing fixtures installed. Friday , I went in to punch out four houses for inspections. When I got done , I called my supervisor and told him that lots 153 , 152 , 150 , and 148 were ready. He said "What about lot 146?" I told him it wasn't started yet. He said that that was the one I was supposed to do on Thursday. Oooops. No biggie really. I can have it done tomorrow and the inspections aren't until Tuesday anyway. BTW , I found the box that the stuff came out in and it still looked like it said 148 on it.
