I had a math instructor that had a clock like that in the classroom!

Good news Paul, congrats! My son who was in high school at the time and a genius IQ and very high functioning Aspergers kid, would ask what time it was when a digital clock was not available but the old school one was. I asked him why not learn it he replied I don't have too everything's digital now. He also refused to use western inches feet etc. measurements and would only use metric. Go figure, sounds like your test was a breeze. I recently had a chat with a Doctor who after awhile asked me if I had ever been tested for ADHD. (I've been pretty sure I had it for decades) I said no. But added a doctor I had asked about getting tested, asked me a brief set of questions, certainly not a "real" ADHD test, and upon answering these few questions declared me not to have it. This new Doctor I was having the conversation with looked at the ground and shook his head and said. I'm sorry, I think we might look into this. I laughed and said yea I thought it might be a good idea too. Not that it's going to change me and sure don't want to be drugged for it if found positive. Crazy messed up world we live in eh'? How did we survive all these years anyway. Sometimes Doctors just want to creat a problem that isn't a problem yet. Carry on mate ever onwards and upwards mate! "Straight ahead and strive for tone"

I was in the SF Bay area the first part of March. Outside of the Sierras not having much snow on them or Hetch Hetchy and other lakes/reservoirs I flew over looking kind of low, all around SF looked nice and green, so what's the problem? :smug:

Much of our water comes from the (non-existant) snow pack...

It could be really rough going West of the Rockies in the not too distant future,
if the powers that be don't figure out what to do about the shrinking water supplies.

It just seems insane that any one or any company would risk harm to life critical, freshwater drinking supplies.

I watched that PBS special ( can't remember the title) where the two scientists go to the Aral Sea in Russia, once the 4th largest body of water on earth and now destroyed, dried up 90%, all because of uncontrolled irrigation of cotton crops. Unimaginable, but it really happened.

They also follow the Colorado River along its original path to the West coast. It fell like 100 miles short of reaching the coast. I think authorities have since opened up some of the flow, but comparatively its still just a trickle. Really scary stuff if you depend on the Colorado for your water supply.

I think this is it

My first job paid $1.75/hr and I was happy as hell to have it too!
My first real one (where pop's or uncle was paying) was $25 for 12.5 hours at 13 (1973) washing and detailing cars. But damn, I was rich all week as I shoved my quarters into MS Pac-Man and Galaga and Dragon's Lair, etc. with lots of soda's and Jolly Giant double and triple cheese burgers (Eunice, LA Food, Etc. made with straight up government cheese!)! Should have invested it all in Apple:atoz:.
fnord:facepalm:

The awful thing about desertification is illustrated by the Mono Lake debacle- as the land stops holding moisture, it creates a micro-climate over that area, worsening the situation.

The encouraging news, is that permaculture and other sustainable agriculture techniques can reverse the process in a surprisingly short amount of time. This has been proven by projects in Israel, China and elsewhere.

However, the Chinese experience shows that it's not as simple as just tossing some seeds around. Here's an excellent talk on the subject, by a leading expert in the field:

Mandatory GOF content: Since my wife went off on a permaculture kick, we've all been eating better and feeling better. But it's ruined my enjoyment of fried cheese curds, and other important snack foods. What's a twinkie lover to do?
