So, all appendages still attached; most working-sorta.
Did a restaurant lounge gig Friday night(6:30-9:30-love the hours). Band had a gig tonight at a country club lounge, but I had taken the night off months ago-went to a ball game in St. Pete(Devil Rays/Tigers). Might do the Sunday afternoon gig if I get back home in time. Or not.

He is a great guitarist; yet, dumb that way. He just bought a brand new Pbass. He has a new home studio that he put crazy money into. Yet, he wants a combo bass amp. His idea of an amp is a combo. I've tried many times to talk sense into him. He has more money than sense/want's a combo. No budget, Pbass best combo light as hell to carry?

A combo bass amp can do the job. Point him towards a PF-50T with it’s built in dummy load.

A B-15 is technically a combo and a PF-50T mounted on a PF flip top cab is also a combo But yeah about six seconds before someone points you at the The Combo Club and hilarity ensues.

I see bands with combo amps that have no trouble with volume, even outdoors. Combos aren't what they used to be.

I consider a B-15 a combo but Ampeg was insistant on calling it a fliptop. I think that it was a marketing ploy to distinguish the product from the competition.

I love my '63 B-15N but I'm not a fan of the flipping concept. The vintage amps a heavy and awkward to flip. The gasket on the cabinet developes air leaks with time. The vintage latches can also develop issues. The modern latches are excellent and will not present a problem down the road. I never transport the amp flipped in the cabinet, I separate them for safety.

I feel more comfortable having an amp close by and the cabinet mic'ed in an isolated room when recording. But in general, there isn't a lot of knob turning once the amp is set up.

The big advantage of the PF-50T is that it can be operated without a speaker cabinet connected. There's a dummy load on the power amp output, the signal can be sent to a mixing desk.

I dunno how it compares, being pretty simplistic about plugged in music, but I like my Rumble a lot. Easy to carry, simple to use, seems like it sounds good. Not expensive, never given any trouble. I've never owned anything else, though.

I have one of the newer Rumbles and I swear that thing sounds amazing; whenever I play through it I get compliments on my tone. The new design on the Rumble 100 is 22 lbs, so light as a feather, and it will easily handle whatever I need from it with a drummer in a smallish room. It's not my first choice in every room, but it's given me far more value than I imagined it would, and I've had no problems with it. I bought it as a more versatile option to replace my practice amp, but it's so much more than that.

Other than that, I have little advice, since I haven't run another combo since the mid '80's. Just wanted to toss out that these Fenders shouldn't be ignored.

And yes, I survived last night and will live to face down yet another day. If life follows suit, I've got another two to three years to wait before my pancreas decides to act up again, as long as I'm careful about what I eat.

Do Noubt, Fender Rumbles get a lot of love at and around TB. Saw an entire lineup in person the other day, and lifted a couple "just to confirm". Definitely lighter than any comparable offering I've seen. The Stage 800 gets a lot of love beyond the Rumble lot of love baseline.

And yes, I survived last night and will live to face down yet another day. If life follows suit, I've got another two to three years to wait before my pancreas decides to act up again, as long as I'm careful about what I eat.

Just develop the mantra-- "Too much butter bad! Too much butter bad!......'

On the combo note, there's the Fender 40 watt multi effects unit. Someone can chime in on the name. Please not to forget the Ampeg BA110 or BA112. Ampeg produces a beautiful tone for recording. Perhaps more iconic than the Fender Rumbles. I'm wondering if @Stumbo would chime in on the use of HPF's in recording....

He's a guitarist with money to burn. He needs something heavy, ike an old Peavey combo amp with a 15 in it.

Failing that, if it's only for studio recording, and we want to pity him for having to haul his full Marshall stack all the time (or Twin Reverb with JBLS in it) perhaps a Markbass combo amp would work well for him. I have used my Minimark for many recordings (and gigs, too) with excellent results.

Yep, still mostly here, or nearby to that anyway. Six hour Friday night jam and no pain the next day from all that standing, which counts as real progress. I don't play sitting down much at all, especially not bass. Lead guitarist and I are working out harmony slide parts now, which we both find pretty easy. 60th birthday party upcoming for the host's wife next Friday. I'm sure it'll be an epic jam, as it usually is when we take things up into the main house and invite in an audience.

Charlie! This morning I'm shopping for magnesium and glucosamin for joint care. Doc says my joints are pretty average for the use and girth they've had to endure all these years LOL. I've found taking Glucosamin Chondroiton helps ease the pain considerably. After a week of taking the pills I feel a big difference in my knees back and elbow. I too play standing up. My guitarist friend is already using a bar stool and a singer we play with occasionally called me after a recent gig and was complaining about her back and knees. Asked her if she took supplements, she said no.......
