So how’s things going with the refurb?

That’s it up to primer . After someone suggested a head transplant I decided to give it a go if nothing else just as a challenge. I Can always get a new neck. So I had a guitar neck modified it and fitted it. The truss rod was un damaged so worth a crack . It’s now painted a lovely colour and top coated just got to flatten off . Then reload the electrics and hopefully it will play . Il keep u guys updated

That looks exactly like my old Raven bass. They were marketed in Canada (I think the brand elsewhere was Mann) and often the neck binding just kinda-flaked off after a while. They copied all kinds of brands. Some of them garnered C&D letters from the big G and big F.

It looks like a piece of the bridge is missing - the witness point for the strings.

I'm surprised to see that kind of damage one one. I've seen some that look like they were used to winch equipment up hills and still were in one piece.

Get yourself a paddle neck off of Ebay.

Part of me says Guild, but I have no idea if they were bolt on necks.

I'd put that sucker back together, just decide whether you want it stock, a fretless or a shorter scale.

My dad was an amazing engineer I used to watch him work . I’m not very good yet but I’m a perfectionist so I’m happy to mess things up on route to getting it right

That looks awesome! Next headstock transplant you will likely be happier making each side angled, to basically scarf joint the new headstock on. The glue will hold face to face much better. As it is you’ll have two butt joints with the metal inserts and fretboard bearing the brunt of the string tension, which will surely work for now, over time it’s possible the different expansion/contraction rates of the different materials maybe an issue.

But don’t count me a naysayer, excellent job. Did you make the headstock yourself or cut it off of a donor?

Cut it off a donar . Yeah I saw the scarf joint thing after I’d done it . It’s only a bit of fun if the guitar sounds ok il get a new neck and headstock

After not liking the skinny headstock After a hairline crack appeared and I also disliked the tuners I picked, I had enough and lobbed her head off il send picks . I’m still waiting on hardware. Mudbukker copper coil had fraid so I replaced that I’m now waiting for the tailpiece to arrive ( the most expensive bit! ) and the new vol and tune knobs are yet to arrive. I painted it the most amazing colour but then used a topcoat advised by the shop and it all reacted so I had to strip back again repaint again . It’s been a long refurb but I think we’re close now . Il show u where I’m at

I also would like opinions on which pickguard to use . Or if I should make a black one. I used one of the battered pick guards as a base to do silver leaf and epoxy resin with matching back plate . I also made a copy from a piece of veneer I dyed . Please let me know which u prefer
