Eerie coincidence? They will die off the same order as their band name: Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Grim reaper is pulling one on us, and Palmer sure must be very nervous by now, let's see the remaining weeks of 2016. It's a dark year to be remembered for sure, especially in the music industry.
This is awful news. I grew up listening to ELP and saw them twice in the '70's. The tragic part is that the '60s and '70's artists now really are 60's and 70's artists and may not make it to be 80's artists.
Damn, damn, damn. I saw ELP a few times- the first being the tour of Welcome Back My Friends..., and the last time around 2000, and they presented wonderful shows every time. Rest in peace Greg and Keith, and thank you.

Just heard this news. I will be happy to see 2016 go. It has been such a heartbreaking year for my generations icons. What a loss of a super great talent.

Trilogy was the first"progressive" rock album I ever bought. It was a huge influence on me. Greg Lake's playing helped me realize what was possible on the bass guitar.I didn't even he was sick... Losing all these heros of my youth causes me to consider my own mortality.
At least we have all his recorded works as a legacy.

I was very sorry to see this. Emerson took his own life earlier this year; apparently he was an alcoholic suffering from depression. He had a nerve condition that was impairing his ability to play.
I saw them live once- in 1974 at "August Jam" (the east coast version of "California Jam") at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. ELP put on a hell of a show.

One of the really iconic voices in rock music, and someone I also appreciated for his wonderful "I Believe in Father Christmas," one of my favorite holiday tunes.
I tried to think of something to say but I'm lost for words. How about we all download 'I Believe...' and send him off with a Christmas number 1?
And were getting down to the home stretch 2016 has just been a horrid year the bass playing community! Sad day

ELP and King Crimson made me what I am today: A mediocre prog-rock/jazz bassist.
But seriously: I have listed to Greg Lake probably 100,000 times over the years, not
that I remember from back then, and this is another clear violation of the ban I put on
musician deaths for 2016.
Makes me sad. But he was a man that heavily influenced me and countless others.
RIP Greg.
And if Carl comes back to Chicago soon, I am going to see him again for sure!
