I watched the season five trailer a few times, paused it here and there, rewound, fast forward, slow mo.
There is a scene where Ivar is on the ground, bloodied and propped up against his chariot on a narrow path in a village. No horse around.
Saxon soldiers are lined up walking towards Ivar and there is a dead body (looks like a Saxon) bleeding into the rainy street in the background, with a large group of Vikings a bit behind Ivar. Ivar yells charge and raises his arms while another group of Vikings with swords drawn come running out of a door across the pathway, then the Saxon soldiers start closing in on them.
Earlier in the clip, we see that same bloodied Ivar yelling but you don't hear it.

Then....I saw Torvi, so she is not dead.
I also saw Ivar standing on a battlefield, so it looks like he found a new way to prop himself up.

Hey @sagagirl !!! Season five kicks off with a two hour opener 11/29/2017.
I'm still not sure how I will feel about this upcoming season. I sort of feel like the show is going to start winding down.
Civil War? Yeah, that's going to bring an end to the show. The English can just sit back and watch the Vikings kill each other.

Watching the two previews now, Ivar is still just not a compelling character/king/leader to me. I don't like him all that much.
For as power hungry and ambitious as he is portrayed to be, all he mentions in the preview is being king of Kattegat. Really?

Time to re-watch some season four episodes.
Season five starts Wednesday.
I'm curious to see how long I last this season. I feel like I'll lose interest once Lagertha is gone, but maybe someone/something else will suck me in.
Bjorn? Eh. I haven't much liked him since he grew up.
Floki? Yeah, I like him. But I feel like his storyline is fading. Maybe the journey to Iceland makes him relevant again.
Ragnar's other sons? No thanks.

or maybe I heard it wrong...

I thought Ivar already tried once with braces & crutches, but maybe this time will work.

Thinking more......this new Floki story line may be interesting.
It feels to me like it's all stretched too far out now.
Floki in Iceland, Bjorn in the Mediterranean, Rollo in France, Lagertha in Kattegat, the boys in England.
Speaking of, anyone else find it odd how the switched back to scene of Lagertha walking through the town and across the bottom of the screen it said Kattegat.
Ummm, duh.

Ha, I actually thought that as well. I thought it was odd to have a shot of her & the name of the town in nearly the same frame.

I noticed he said he killed Ellisif too.
He probably figured there was no way Lagertha would find out Halfdan actually did it.
Lagertha is smart, so I don't think she was fooled for one minute by Harald.

I'm liking the new season so far, but am I to believe that all Ivar needed to walk was a lower leg brace, and crutch? Lame.

Astrid sure has found herself in a peculiar situation, but I'm curious if she was taken partially to get even with Lagertha, and it seems she may be liking being a queen - even after that punch in the nose ... ouch!



BTW - did any one see "Warcraft" starring Travis Fimmel/Ben Johnson? It was refreshing seeing Fimmel in similar type role, and the creature special effects were pretty good.

I started watching Warcraft for the sole reason Ragnar was in it. I kept falling asleep, so gave up trying to watch it.

As for Vikings so far this season, lines are being clearly drawn at this point for each character which is nice.
There's going to be a civil war at some point among the Vikings. I am just not sure if it is during or after the battles with the Saxons.

I don't like Heahmund one bit. Hirst is all ga-ga over him, so he is here to stay in the show.
I found it totally unbelievable that him and Ivar just stood there staring at each other during that massive battle, then as Heahmund approached, a crowd of fighting men got in the way and pushed him aside? Come on man.
Ubbe tried to do the right thing, but Heahmund punked them out. That made me mad. I knew that was coming, but still it irritated me. Aethelwulf and Alfred seemed ready to lay down arms and move on too.
Hvitserk seems like the weakest of the bunch, especially mentally. I could totally seeing him dying this season. Especially since Lagertha made no mention of him when she asked Ubbe to form an alliance with her to fight Ivar/Harald.

As for Lagertha, I think she knows exactly what she is doing. Harald got away, and she knew he would. He's gone and out of her way while she prepares for his return.
Astrid cheated on Lagertha once, but I think she'll be back to fight with Lagertha.
Still, I think the end of Lagertha is coming. That's going to be a huge bummer as I love her quiet confidence and leadership.

Floki, Floki, Floki......this Iceland story is tripping me out. I can't say I really dig it so far.
He's going to meet up with some other humans soon enough, and we see his boat all repaired and stocked for a trip. I wonder if he is going to make his way back to Kattegat for the civil war coming.

Did the vikings really have funny haircuts like that? Where are the horned helmets?

That wasn't one of the finer moments for sure, but I was getting a bit upset the way Ivar went after them - belittling them in front of everyone.

I don't understand why Ivar is still alive. If you take it in the context of the age they are in, there's no way he should have survived unpunished by his other brothers for the murder of Sigard, and there's certainly no way a Viking leader like Ubbe in that age would allow anyone, especially a crippled named Boneless, to call him a coward in front of the entire force of men. This seems very unrealistic to me.

Well, they are Viking, diametrically opposed to the way I witnessed Asian culture.
Ironically, a Swedish friend of mine lives in Asia now, because he couldn't stand the Viking instincts at home.
