Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group

I went down that same path too for a bit, but turned the corner recently and my 4003 is now what I've been playing more than anything else. Basses are like food for me -- favorites last only so long before I got to have something else for a change.
I am getting a Höfner Contemporary Violin Bass from Thomann late in this month. Having read this thread backwards 4 pages, i can only wish that it will have good tuners.
Thomann`s pics of it shows Wilkinson tuners, quite vintage in appearance.
Of my title: i had 2 Höfner guitars in 1964-68, one bad solidbody and one very good semi-hollow.
The current tuners on the CT are Wilkinson just like they've always been from the start. The only difference is that the newer ones have a more rounded look like their German cousins.
There's only one real issue with them. The buttons tend to get loose so you have to pay attention to them because they'll strip out. Other than that the only other thing purists don't like is that the buttons aren't completely round, they sort of angle.
Dad's copy is called an "Ideal" and my luthier says the neck looks identical to an older Framus. Although this is stamped "Japan" on the neck plate. Anyone know if I can get a pickguard for it, i.e. will the stock part fit?
Is there anyway you can post a picture of this thing. I've been Google searching and I didn't find any pictures of it. I wonder if Pickguardian could fab something up.
I'm in. Within the next couple of months, I'll own a Rogue VB100. Not a Höfner, but it virtually is, and Höfner is my favorite Bass Brand.
I have a set of Wilkinson (from a HCT Hofner) tuners with ferrules for sale in the Accessories section of the classifieds if anyone is looking for some.

Thanks! Got my Hofner Icon for $400 with a gig bag. I saw other places selling them w/o the gig bag for $370, but they were out of stock.

need a little help, please.. I have an icon. I have had it for several months and really like it.
But.. the jack has some issues. I am looking to swap it out for something more sturdy. While I am doing that, I was thinking of swapping out what I assume are low quality pots, and rewiring with decent wire. I have an intermittant short some place in there.
Has anybody done this with good results? Any advice?
I too am also having issues finding/ adjusting the truss rod. Can someone say definitively what the correct allen is?
